"He wants to know what I was gonna say," I said to Holly. We sat across from each other at Starbucks, and she had been listening to me rant for the past half-hour.
"What was it?" she asked.
"It was that I loved him."
"Why didn't you say it?"
"I don't know!" I said.
"Are you sure you don't just like him a lot?" Holly asked.
"No. I love him. I know I do."
"You guys haven't been together long."
"I know. But I'm in love with him. I love everything about him. He makes me feel... breathless."
Holly laughed. "You're blushing. Call him!"
"But what if he doesn't say it back?"
"Sara. Stop. I'm sure he loves you."
I shrugged. "I don't know. I'm just scared I'm annoying or not good enough for him or something. Or clingy. Clingy girls suck."
Holly burst out laughing. "You totally got yourself into that one."
"You're such a child."
"So are you gonna call him or not?"
"Ugh, fine. Yes."
"Do you want me to go somewhere else?"
"Let's go outside."
I breathed in the autumn air, relaxing a little. I had butterflies, both the good kind and the nervous kind."Oh God," I said. "I'm sick and I kissed him. Ew."
Holly laughed. "I really don't think he cares that much. Unless you have herpes. Now call!"
I wondered what his reaction would be as he answered.
"Okay..." I started. "I should've told you this... I think... Wait, no. Okay, look, I kinda love you." I felt my face go hot.
Derek laughed a little, the sound filling me up and warming me. "Kinda?"
"No..."
"Meet me at your place."
"Why?"
"Just go."
