Anna's POV
See that man over there? The one with the mustache and the bowler hat? No?
What about the little girl? With the blonde pig tails? No?
How about the elderly lady with the walker? No?
Yeah, I didn't think so. You see they are dead. Ghosts who are still on earth with unfinished business.
The man died in 1969 when the law firm he worked at collapsed. He never met his son. Well that is until now. He is currently sitting beside him.
The little girl was hit by a school bus on her very first day of grade 1. She never said goodbye to her parents.
The elderly lady had Alzheimer's. She wanted to see the husband she forgot one last time.
The ability to see ghosts is very rare. I only know two people, me and my mother. But I'm different. Most people who can see ghosts can't talk to them. I can. I don't exactly know why but I can.
My name is Arianna King. Anna for short. I live in a small town just outside of Manchester. I sighed as I walked over to the man. I have known him for three weeks. I must say he is persistent! Never giving up on finding his son.
"Thank you Anna!" he smiled. He looked over his shoulder to see a bright light. "I think it's time for me to go." he waved and walked into the bright light.
I walked home and quietly closed the door as to not wake my mom. She works night shifts at the hospital. That's what you have to do when you are a single mom.
My parents met in high school in 89', got married in 95' and had me in 96'. My dad died two years ago when he was on a business trip. His plane crashed somewhere in the Philippines. I thought that because his ghost didn't come to say goodbye then maybe he was still alive. I kept onto that fact for a year until they found his body. I guess he didn't want to say goodbye?
I made myself dinner and started on my homework. After an hour of studying the digestive track I fell asleep. I want to be a nurse. My mom always wanted to be one too but right now she is just the night janitor at the local hospital.
"Hey Anna!"
"Shit Cassidy!" I jumped as the girl appeared by my side. Cassidy is a ghost. She is seventeen and died about three years ago.
"Sorry Annabanana!" she smiled. Cassidy is the closest thing I have to a friend. To everyone else around town I'm the weird girl who talks to herself.
"It's ok! What are you doing here?" I remember asking her why she wasn't moving on. She told me that she didn't know, just waiting for the right time.
"I thought I would come see you!" she smiled.
"That's really sweet Cass but I got to go to sleep! I have work in the morning!"
"Fine then buzz kill!"
"Well sorry little miss 'doesn't need to sleep' but I do!" I said rolling over.
"Ok! Nighty night Annabear!" I felt her leave. I sighed as I tossed and turned. I closed my eyes for it to be filled with the familiar nightmare.
"Mayday! Mayday! We are going down!" the pilot yelled.
"NO! I have a fourteen year old daughter! I can't die!"
"Anything you would like to say?" the pilot asked as he held the mic recording.
"Anna I love you! I will always love you no matter what!"
CRASH
I jolted up in bed, dripping with sweat. I remember when I first heard that recording. It was a week after the crash. It now haunts my dreams every night. The last words my father ever said before he died. I can't help but think if he moved on. I mean maybe he is wandering somewhere looking for me.
