Anna's POV
I opened my eyes and groaned, it is eight o'clock, much too early to be awake! I finished my exams with 90's and I have three days with my mom.
"ANNA!" I heard her call from downstairs.
"WHAT?" I groaned rolling over and rolling out of my bed. Literally. I rolled over and forgot that this is a single bed and rolled right onto the floor with a BANG!
"MATT AND I ARE GOING FOR BREAKFAST, BE BACK FOR LUNCH!"
"WHATEVER!" I yelled.
I shot up and grabbed my phone, dialing the number as I heard the door close downstairs and the car start up.
"Hey Anna!" Harry answered cheerily.
"Hey Harry! Guess-"
"HARRY!" I heard someone, it sounded like Paul, yell in the background.
"Can I call you back in two minutes?"
"Sure!" I said, confused. A couple minutes later my phone rang, "So are you going to explain what just happened?"
"Well we are rehearsing and Paul chased me off the stage threatening to drown my phone in a lake!"
"Oh Harry I'm sorry! Get back to rehearsing-"
"No it's ok, I'm camped out in a closet for now." I just started laughing. "What?"
"Are you coming out of the closet any time soon!"
"Oh hardy har har you are hilarious Anna!"
"You love me!" I laughed, "But OMG you will never guess what just happened!"
"What?"
"Matty is going out to breakfast. By themselves!"
"MATTY IS REAL!" Harry yelled.
"Well now you have done it!"
"What do you-"
Then I heard Paul's voice, "Knew I would find you! You need to get back to rehearsal! Bye Anna!"
"Bye An-"
I laughed as the line went dead and pictured him being dragged by Paul back to rehearsals!
I rolled my eyes and got off the floor (yes I am still on the floor, getting up takes a lot of effort!) and went downstairs for breakfast. I have been reading a book called The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I looked down at the eggs for my breakfast and frowned. I remember a point in the story in which Hazel Grace questions breakfast food. She said that it is not fair that some foods are deemed "breakfast food" and nothing else. Eat bacon for lunch or dinner and no one bats and eye, have eggs for dinner and it is "breakfast for dinner".
I read a lot.
I love reading. Reading takes you to an outside world where left is left and right is right and up is up and down is down. Everything has relevance and everything makes sense. All the endings tie up loose ends, answer the questions and sort all the problems out.
I like reading because it takes you to a land where you don't need to worry about school or friends or anything.
I put my empty plate in the sink and walked upstairs to grab my book, An Abundance of Katherines, also by John Green. It is safe to say John is my favourite author but also my favourite YouTuber. He and his brother Hank run a YouTube channel called Vlog Brothers, they are an intellectual duo who talk about nerd things, things I find very interesting.
When I grew up I was told being different and weird meant that I was uncool. The kids at school told me that my love of siifi movies and math made me a loser and they picked on me for it. John and Hank taught me that being a nerd is one of the best things in the world.
"Deep in thought again?"
"Hey Cass!" I said not looking up from my book.
"Whacha readin'?"
"An Abundance of Katherines."
"What is it about."
"A guy with no luck in the dating department when it comes to Katherines." I said looking up from my book to see Cass sitting Indian style at the end of my bed, the same pink tank top and jean shorts that she wore the day she died with the same brown hair thrown in a pony. "I'm trying to think of how unlikely it is to know nineteen Katherines let alone date them. This guy has the worst of luck."
"You read to much."
"You don't read enough." I said looking back down at my book.
"You know what bothers me?"
"When people use the wrong 'your' while texting. It is really quite simple, your is possessive, you're is you are."
"No. When I get grounded."
"How can you be grounded? You are dead."
"No, I mean when I was alive."
"How long have you been dead?"
"Twenty-four years." she said simply. "I was just thinking about the day I died, I was grounded for going to a party."
"How did you die anyways?"
"It's complicated"
"I was hoping for a more witty response like 'my heart stopped beating.'" I said looking up at her, "It is something my dad said."
"That's a weird saying."
"It's not a saying. Just an observation." I said, "When you think about everyone dies the same way. It doesn't matter if you died of cancer or fighting for your country or end up on 1000 Ways to Die from doing a stupid thing, everyone ends up the same way, their heart stops beating."
"Anna are you ok?"
"I have been reading a lot of John Green lately."
"Ok?" Cass said looking confused. "Anywhore-"
"You were watching me watch Ray William Johnson" I said referring to another one of my favourite YouTubers, it has come to my attention that I watch a lot of YouTube.
"Yeah, but what I wanted to ask was have you told Harry?"
"It isn't really something you say over the phone." I said putting my book down realizing that Cass is not going to just let me read until she gets some answers. I wonder if she was this stubborn when she was alive? "What do I say? 'Hey Harry just so you know your girlfriend can talk to ghosts and her best friend is a ghost. Ok have a nice day!' No! I get back to the States tomorrow, I will tell him then!"
"Good." Cass said, "Now I will let you get back to your reading of unrealistic romance."
"I love novelistic romance. It makes you think life in hunky dorey."
"But it right now. You have Harry."
"Yeah I know. But things usually fall to shit when it comes to my luck."
A/N:
Ok so my friend lent me a bunch of John Green books and they are INCREDIBLE! The Fault in Our Stars is a piece of true genius! It has ups and downs and makes you want to cry and laugh all at the same time! I read it in like a day and a half it was THAT good!
So I highly recommend it! I also recommend his YouTube channel with his brother! NERD FIGHTERS! They are hilarious!
Hope you guys like the chapter! Love you all!
