Caitlin pulled my fingers out of my mouth, stopping me from biting my nails; it was a bad habit of mine and I mostly did it when I was nervous. Her eyes never left the screens. In her living room, there were four computers set up. One was for Barry's health, another for contacting S.T.A.R Labs and the last two were attached to every security camera in Central City.
I sat back on the sofa with her, watching her work away. Caitlin had a lot to do but due to my low knowledge on this sort of thing, I couldn't exactly help. The only thing I could do was keep making drinks and bringing food from the kitchen. I couldn't stay sane, I had two people out there that I had to worry about and they were going to fight each other.
As I stood in the kitchen grabbing another two bars of chocolate, I looked out of the window. There was hardly anyone on the streets which made everything look creepy. This wasn't Central City.
"Barry! Stop! No, you can't go down there!" Caitlin suddenly screamed.
I rushed back into the living room, forgetting all about the food. Caitlin was hastily typing away, each screen making an annoying sound or flashing vibrant colours.
"Caitlin, what's going on!?" I stressed, trying to work out what was happening.
"Barry is being reckless, again!" She groaned.
"Well is there anything I can do?"
Before Caitlin could talk, there were loud knocks on the door. Both of our heads snapped toward it, wondering who it could be. I slowly stood, cautiously making my way towards the door. Caitlin also stood, trying to peak out of the living room door. I looked through the peephole, only to be faced with someone I was dreading to see.
Tiptoeing over to Caitlin, I put a finger to my lips. She unplugged everything, packing a tablet into her already full of gadgets backpack. Guiding her out of the room, we closed the door behind us to the bedroom. Opening the window, I climbed out onto the fire escape before Caitlin stopped me.
"Who is it?" She whispered.
"Nameless."
Without saying anything more, she scurried after me, the both of us climbing down the ladder as fast as we could. Luckily, Caitlin's flat wasn't too high up, so we made it to the ground quite quickly. Having to jump off of the ladder, we tried to be as silent as possible, not wanting to draw attention. It was dark out but we made our way out of the back alley and onto the main streets.
"Where do we go?" I asked.
Caitlin was hesitant."I-I don't know."
"We're going to have to think of something quick. We're literally the only people on the streets."
"What about S.T.A.R labs?"
"No. He won't find us in your flat and that'll be the next place he'll go to."
"So what do we do?"
"I know where we're going."
Both Caitlin and I hit the glass doors on the coffee shop, making a racket. Unfortunately, this was the only way to get anyone's attention. Luckily, I saw a figure come out of the kitchen, and thank God it was Iris. She looked shocked to see two grown women at the shops doors in early hours of the morning.
As she opened the door, she hissed."What are you two doing here!? Don't you know there's a psycho out there?!" She locked the door behind her hastily.
"Yes, that's why we're here." I breathed out.
"How did you know I'd be here?"
"I texted you earlier, remember? After the trial. You said you would be working late which normally means that you'll be writing up an article until the next morning."
"Wow, I have such a sad life."
We sat in the kitchen whilst Caitlin set up her tablet and other gadgets in the boss' office. Iris was writing up the rest of her article on the Flash, yet again.
I cradled the mug of hot chocolate in my hands."I can't believe you've come straight back to work. You only got out of the hospital three days ago."
"Well, the doctors said that I was OK to move around. My boss isn't making me do much which is a plus." Her eyes never left the screen and her fingers speedily typed up her story."And I don't like to be at home doing nothing all day."
"We're all different I suppose. Do you need any help?"
Iris suddnely stopped typing. She opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. Then,"What happened between you and The Flash?"
I groaned, walking away from her.
"Oh come on, please!? I will change your name and everything!"
"It's not that, Iris. Nothing ever happened alright?"
"That's not what the files say."
"You meant the police files? You know that's probably illegal."
She shrugged."Still, that leader of 'Rage' seemed pretty sure you two had a thing, or something along those lines."
"Iris, he said that to manipulate you, so that we would fight."
"What about Nameless, hm? I can't see any other reason as to why he would attack you apart from the fact that you're with The Flash!"
"Iris, calm down and think! It's been a long night for all of us."
There was a further five minutes of silence before we heard Caitlin. Iris obviously didn't know anything about us being connected with The Flash right now, we had made up a story that she was speaking to a few friends of hers, making sure they were all right and such. Iris hadn't questioned it, she seemed too busy with her work. As Iris began typing again, I joined Caitlin in the office. As I stood outside the door, her speaking suddenly stopped. I waited a few more minutes but still nothing.
As I opened the door, there was no one in the room. Everything was still set up the way it was but Caitlin wasn't there. Panic struck, knowing that she wouldn't just walk out of here without telling either me or Iris. Once again, I searched the whole room, my last resorts of ideas being that she was hiding; no such luck. Just as I was about to leave, the screen of the tablet lit up, displaying a message.
Choose.
