Amelia’s POV:

We were a huge room which I guessed was the ballroom. It was so big I felt like the walls were going to swallow me whole and everything else inside the room. I looked as if it were bigger than at least half of my house. The walls were made of stone and the floor was wooden as well. There was a chandelier that was bigger than the one back at home. Everything seemed to be placed to impress. I’ll tell you one thing, I was impressed. Everyone else was also dressed to impress, I felt a little underdressed if I’m being honest. This was the most elegant dress I own and I felt as if I was the most casually dressed person here.  There seemed to be a large cluster of people at the far end of the room. They were very quiet and I assumed that they were waiting for the King and the Prince to make their royal appearance. There was no Queen as Queen Clarabelle had died at a young age from giving birth to Prince Simon. When she gave birth the royal family were happier than they had ever been in years. During the pregnancy Queen Clarabelle had quite a few problems and once they were very near to both the baby and Queen Clarabelle being killed. Soon she gave birth to a healthy baby boy and he was named Simon. But after a couple of months the Queen turned fatally ill and no medications could heal or help her get better. She soon died and left the king devastated, he never married again. He never even looked at women in that way ever again.

The crowd was slowly getting bigger and I guessed that soon the King would make his royal appearance. There was hardly anyone who I knew here. The only thing I liked here was the view and the wine. The view was magnificent we were on the top of a hill and you could see the light filtering in through the stain glass windows. There was a forest in the distance and I could practically hear the birds in the distance. There was also a lake which I knew inhabited fish and probably ducks. There was also a balcony which had flowers hung over the edge, there was a gentle breeze which escaped the balcony into the room. It made the room cooler which I was extremely thankful for, usually on these types of events; the air is usually a lot more stuffy and hot. The balcony was beautiful; I never thought something so simple could leave me so breathless. There were so many people! At least over a thousand! The masks worn were all different and unique, not only were they very classy they showed their personality completely. One woman had a multi coloured mask which had been made out of feathers and had a beak. She walked around like a bird. She even pecked at all the food which was given to her. It was quite an eye-opener. There was another man who had a glass mask which looked like it had been dipped into snow and taken out whilst they had crystallised onto the mask. When I had accidently bumped into him he gave me such a glare which left me quite chilly and scared. It seemed like everyone was getting a little impatient waiting for the royalties to make their appearance, it seemed like they had been waiting even longer than me. I was very tempted to leave now whilst people were still waiting and tell mother that the King took very long and I thought that the ball was over. But just as that thought ran through my head the King stepped forward through a curtain that slyly concealed a small entrance which I’m guessing was the door which allowed the King to enter this room in the first place. This made me totally re-think how big this castle actually was. He smiled as he saw the mass of people stood in front of him. He turned around and motioned his hand out towards the entrance where he just entered the room in.

“I give you, Prince Simon, My son!”

The crowd erupted with a huge round of applause and some women even started to whisper to each other swooning over the Prince. To say the whole truth I’d never seen the Prince before so for all I knew he could’ve been the ugliest person in the entire land. When he came from behind the curtain what I saw surprised me so much that when everyone had bowed their head in respect I was the only one standing up looking straight at the Prince with my mouth hanging wide open. He was in an ordinary suit and looked like he’d made no effort for the ball at all. His hair was a dark ash black and it looked like he had just stepped out of bed. It was cut quite short and had natural spikes pointing out in all directions. His face was perfect with hardly any blemishes at all. His nose was very angular and pointed. His eyes were framed with lashes that were so long that would make any woman jealous. His eyes were a luminous green and sparkled in the light. In comparison to the King he looked like a God. The King had little beauty in him. His face had aged and he was greying. His face sagged from age and his whole body looked very worn. In fact, a toad in comparison to the King would look like a God. Although if anyone heard me utter those words I would be sentenced to a very harsh and painful death.  When I finally left my thoughts I realised that I still was the only one not bowing down in respect. As I realised this I quickly curtseyed and stayed there until.

“You may rise!”

Everyone slowly looked up to the King and stood straight and regained their posture they had settled on before.

“As you already know, I have arranged for this ball to happen as I am searching for a bride to wed my son!”

As he was talking I quickly lost interest and looked over at the Prince. He was sat in his throne slumped over and it seemed like he too had lost interest in his father’s speech. As I was looking around the room I noticed the curtains sway gently. It was either my imagination or the breeze from outside had picked up. It couldn’t have possibly have been a person. With this castle being under constant guard no one could have possibly have gotten up there without being noticed. As I watched, to my horror, a woman with long brown flowing hair slithered up onto the platform staying completely hidden from sight. She wore a rich ruby dress which flowed to the ground and had slits in the sleeves as they went down her arms. She had a face of innocence which led me to question why she was here. As the King was blabbing on she stepped up behind him and stuck two fingers behind his head. It made him look like he had bunny ears made from human flesh placed neatly on top of his head. Right bang smack in the middle. Most of the crowd hadn’t yet noticed but as I watched steadily more people started to notice. She started to pull funny faces and stuck her tongue out at the King. The person standing next to me who was a very high standard woman even let out a little snort. But she quickly covered it up by coughing into her tissue. This left me wondering, who was this woman and why was she allowed to get away with such mocking gestures?
