Natalia’s Flashback:
I woke up with a dull throbbing pain at the back of my head. I was inside a carriage which was used for moving stock. The wooden walls were slowly rotting away and I could see the green mould and paint peeling off the walls. The entire thing was jerking about and I was thrown from wall to wall. There were no windows so that I could assess my surroundings so I had no idea where I was. I could hear a tune being whistled by, no doubt, a man. I must’ve been on a mountain path or something. It was so bumpy that I must’ve been on some sort of rocky path. I tried to open the door at back of the cart but sadly it was locked. There was a small hole at the front of the cart and I could see that there was a rope which connected the cart to the box where the rider sat on. I tried to slide my hands into the hole but sadly there was no way I could fit my hands through. The walls looked like they weren’t very sturdy. I peeked through the small hole desperately trying to see who this man was but it was just too small.
I stood up and steadied myself against the wall; this was where my powers came into use. I took my stance and concentrated on sourcing my powers to knock the wall down. When I was about to collect all the air molecules the pain in my head tripled and I was in so much pain that I fell to the ground. As I was lying in pain on the floor I could see that hung up on the ceiling was the stone which that man was holding in my village.
My village! What had happened to everyone?! Why did they have to leave the stone in here? It’s not like I am a super awesome magician. I haven’t even had my ceremony where my powers get enhanced! Why did they have to come now?! They couldn’t have gone to another village?! I know I was being selfish but it wasn’t my fault! They should’ve left us alone! I cannot think like this... Mum would be disappointed in me...
I cleared my mind and stood up I reached as high as I could and found that I could just about reach the stone. I wrapped my hand around it and tugged with all my might. The stone slipped out and fell into my hands. Pain flared through my hands like a raging flame was placed into my hands. I dropped it onto the ground and tore off one of the strips of material hanging off of my dress. I carefully wrapped it around the stone weary of the pain it could cause me. I slid it into the front of my dress and braced myself for what I was about to do. I struck the wall with my foot as hard as I could thankfully the wood wasn’t very strong and the wood smashed into pieces.
I could see that we were on the side of a cliff face and the cart was very close to the edge. Further on ahead I could see that there was an entire forest surrounding the cliff. It was still night but who knew how long I’d been in that cart for. I looked in both directions and concluded that I could jump off easily without being seen by the driver. I was quite surprised that he hadn’t heard the wood breaking. He must have been drunk or deaf.
There was nothing on either side so I quickly jumped out and when I landed I done a forward roll to make the land easier. It still was pretty painful though because all the rocks and stones dug into my back when I landed and dust from the cart flew into my eyes, making me momentarily blind. Once the cart left and I could see it no more I ran in the other direction as fast as I could.
---End of flashback---
Amelia’s POV:
The whole time she told me about her childhood I could see her trying hard to not show any emotion and it sounded like she was trying to detach herself from the truth. That she had no family and that she was all alone in this world.
“So did you ever return back to your village?”
I tried to make my voice seem uninterested but I failed and I could hear the curiosity leak into my voice. The saying ‘Curiosity Killed the Cat’ popped into my head but I disregarded it and listened intently for her answer. Natalia straightened her shoulders and shrugged.
