Chapter 3
Aubrey's POV
The tension at the small table was as thick as a block of cement that the thought of ducking under the table crossed my mind more than twice. Glancing up at Holden I forced a pleasant smile hoping to rid him quicker.
His deep blue ocean eyes trailed over my figure pausing at my chest longer than he should "Aubrey your looking lovely as usual." he said with a dazzling pearly grin
That pearly smile would be seen as a handsome kind man but I knew behind that knee buckling grin was evilness especially since the trial that dragged on earlier determining whether Holden stays alpha or not after he ambushed Hunter nearly eight months ago. Unfortunately the majority ruled for him to say in power.
"How are you Holden?" I asked politely only because he is still the alpha
"Much better now." he winked
A low growl sounded from my right reminding me to get rid of Holden quickly before Hunter rips his throat out.
"Thank you.. so your here for dinner."
"No I actually just saw you through the window and I had to come in." he chuckled
"You should have just stayed outside." Hunter said in a edgy tone
Holden turned towards him a glint of amusement revealing his latest scheme in his head "I see your just as friendly." he snorted
"Come a little closer and I'll show you how friendly I can be." Hunter hissed
"Holden how are you boy?" my dad said smiling up as he shook my exes hand as if they were friends
"Hun your looking handsomer by every passing day." my mom giggled when Holden bent down to kiss her check
Peering over at Hunter I saw him clench his fist on the table his knuckles white as snow. The way my parents greeted Holden so warmly while they basically shoved Hunter aside like a child would toss away a used up toy. I know my parents aren't his favorite people in the world but I understand why Hunter is pissed and I don't blame him. Placing my hand over one of his I forced his fingers out of the iron grasp and entwined my fingers with his noticing the way his fingers loosened.
Locking my gaze with his I felt the anger rolling off of him in waves "Relax." I whispered tightening my hold on him
Responding with a hesitant nod he closed his fingers over mine in a vise like grip that made me wince.
"Well it's good to have you back alpha." my dad said
"Yeah Moon Creek might be a beautiful place but it's good to be back home." Holden said as his eyes darting to Hunter
My brows drew closer together in confusion "You went to Moon Creek?"
"Yes and I heard the rogue was there too." he added not trying to hide the too obvious way he brought Hunter back in the conversation
From beside me Hunter stiffened as he squeezed my hand causing a small cracking sound as my bones rubbed together painfully. But I didn't pull away knowing the only thing keeping him in his seat was my hand he is so easily crushing.
Leaning forward Holden raised one brown brow "Actually we ran into each other."
Turning towards Hunter for an explantation and searched his tight expression as he stared daggers at Holden who was too close to my ear that I had to scoot away uncomfortable with him breathing down my neck.
