Chapter 7: hiding under cars

Carls P.O.V
I stare at the one person I thought I would never see again, Luna. She stares at me smiling widely, I want to tell everyone that she's back so I try to yell Luna but it comes out in a whisper.
"Luna" I whisper. Why would she come back? She runs up to me and throws herself into my arms, her brown hair flying everywhere as she wraps her arms around me. I look at her confused, I will never understand her I was sure that she was just pushing me away because she didn't know how to let people care about her, then I had to convince myself that she hated me and that's why she left, now she's acting like we have been best friends for years, her smile fades as she examines my face to see my confused expression.
"Your Carl right?" She asks stepping away slightly. I nod and she looks at me confused too.
"What was I like?" She asks me and I feel like I'm about to be sick because of that question, why was she asking this?
"I didn't know you for long and you didn't really let me know you, you would push me away, what are you talking about Luna?" I ask confused stepping away slightly.
"Why would I push you away?" She asks not answering my question.
"Because something horrible happened to your famil-" I cut myself off, if she doesn't remember what happened to her family maybe that's for the best.
"What happened to my family?" she asks concerned.
"I don't know you never told me" I sigh and I'm not lying she never told me. She smiled again.

"I remember Lucas and his little sister Sophia and I remember your mum hitting me and that Glenn hit me with a car and I remember you where looking at me strange when we were with the sheriff but most of all I just remember you" she smiles wider "Carl I remembered you first" She breaths and I smiled slightly too, she remembered me first and most?
"LUNA" Sophia yells, jumping into a tight hug with Luna.
"I'm so sorry Sophia I don't know why I left I honestly don't remember" Luna says hugging Sophia tighter.
"Oh my god what the hell are you doing back here?" my mum yells at Luna. Luna looks scared as everyone crowds around us.
"Mum stop Luna doesn't remember almost anything" I say to her, my mum looks shocked.
"Luna what do you remember" my dad asks her.
"I remember someone named Glenn hit me with his car and I remember Carl and Lucas and Sophia and I remember I left but I didn't want to I was coming back but then you guys where gone and then I crashed my car and I found myself here" she says, I looked shocked at her. She just shrugs.
"Lori I don't see why she can't stay" rick says to my mum. I can tell mum doesn't like the idea but she nods in agreement, and I hug Luna again.
"Why are we here this isn't a good place to stay" she says worried.
"I know but the RV broke down and we have to find some parts but we are just going and looking for some cool stuff in cars." Everyone but the kids walk away and I am about to grab her hand and lead her though the maze of cars when I see blood dripping from her fingers.
"Luna what happ-" I start wide eyed, she cuts me off.
"Car crash long story" she shrugs and walks away and we follow.
Dale stands on top of the RV keeping a look out, me Sophia Lucas and Luna wonder around looking in cars. Luna grads something out of her waist band and holds it in her hand. I realise it's a gun, I'm about to ask her why her parents let her have a gun but I stop myself.
"I'm not allowed a gun" I sigh. She reaches into the back of a car and pulls out another black thing and hands it to me.
"There you go" she smiles happily, but I give the gun back to her, she doesn't seem like she understamds that there are people that will not allow me to even hold a gun.
"It's ok my parents would kill me if they know I had a gun" I tell her pushing her hands away, she rolls her eyes but takes the gun back but as she hears my words it's as if she just gets lost in her own head.
"Luna" I tug at her arm. Lucas notices and try's to help.
"Hello Luna anyone home" he says waving his hand in her face. She finally starts to blink rapidly and I get more worried.
"Your parents would kill you if they knew you had a gun" she said but I could tell she wasn't aware that she was saying it "well I killed my whole family" she stares at nothing and when she finally starts to look at me and Lucas's worried expressions we have already panicked several times.
"Sorry just got lost in thoughts for a second" she says but I can tell she is lying I can also tell that the smile on her face is fake.
"You sure?" I ask as I hear Sophia wonder ahead of us, Luna just nods but I'm not convinced. My dad runs out from behind a car "Lori get down" he whispers to my mum, my worried dad turns to us.
"Kids get down now" dad hisses, we all stand there for a second shocked but then Lucas jumps under a car and Sophia get under another. My mum grabs Carols' face to stop her from crying, I can tell she's worried because her daughter is under a different car then Sophia's. The only two people still exposed are me and Luna I pull Luna's arm but she shakes her head.
"Carl don't argue but I can't get under there you hide I'll lead them straight to you if I go under there with you" she says and my heart stops in its track what does she mean? She sees my confused expression and holds up her hand which is still bleeding, she pushes me harshly toward a car and gives me a little smile and I'm scared because it looks like a goodbye smile. She runs to a car that is isolated from everyone else's but I can still see her, she jumps under and grips her knife in her good hand.
Sophia's beginning to panic and I can tell she is holding in sobs. I'm worried about her she doesn't cope well with the walkers and she is all alone. Sophia and Carols both hold in sobs as the walker start to pass our cars. There are hundreds of them this is the biggest herd of walkers I have ever seen but I can tell that Luna doesn't think the same because everyone I can see looks worried but Luna looks almost calm even know she is in the most danger Maybe this is normal for her but I can tell she is worried about Sophia too. My mum's arms are tightly around carols mouth to stop her from sobbing. I hope everyone's ok not just because I don't want anyone to get hurt but if one of us dies the others don't have much hope. A walker falls to it's knees In front of Luna's car and begins to craw towards her, I stop breathing until she stabs it harshly in the eye and I'm surprised no walkers notice that it was crawling towards a person. She gives me a weak smile as two more climb under but she handles it like its nothing. I knew that she could handle herself and I knew she could survive but I didn't know she was this good at killing the walkers, she's my age and I have never killed a walker before and she has just taken down three like its nothing. I spare a glance at everyone else mum and carol are still huddled together mum still trying to calm her down, dad is holding a finger up to his lips to tell everyone to be quiet and Sophia seems to have calmed down a little but still not enough and I turn back to Luna to see her cutting open a walkers chest and I see her face twitch for a second at the smell at first I think she's crazy until I realise what she's doing, if she cuts the walker open the smell should cover the smell of her blood and it seems to be working because no other walkers try to attack her. I smile slightly at her and show her thumbs up. All the walkers have started to move away leaving us all looking at each other with me and Luna staring into each other's eyes again, I'm so happy I got her back and I'm not going to let anything take her away now. She doesn't remember what happened but that's ok because she doesn't want to push me away anymore. I smile at her and she looks at me the same way I love these moments we have. I hear whimpers from a car to my right and look to see Sophia being chased by a few walkers, oh no my jaw fall open and before anyone can even think to do anything Sophia is sliding down a slope into the bush and Luna is tumbling after her. I slide out from the car as fast as I can and run to the edge of the high way where they disappeared into the bush.
"Luna, Sophia" I yell in a whisper and Lucas does the same, Lucas throws himself over the railing about to slide down and so am I when dad grabs us.
"Stay here" he hisses jumping over the railing and rolling down the hill then running into the direction of Sophia and Luna.
"Oh god" I say to Lucas as tears fill both Lucas and my eyes as carol and mum run to the edge with carol sobbing Sophia's name.
"Oh god" Lucas repeats me.
