"That was brilliant!" I said to Tyler, but he was left dumbfounded. "The kiss." I added, but he still didn't understand.
"Your plan on kissing me in front of the whole school. I mean, you should've told me before doing it because I was surprised, but I don't think anyone else noticed it. I'm so stupid. I just realized that we never do anything. We hold hands and other stuff, but we never make-out. We should do it more often or else people are gonna think that you're losing interest in me, and sluts will surround you in no time." I ranted on.
We were in his car, heading home, and I just couldn't wait to say what's on my mind. I couldn't say anything in school because someone might hear our conversation, and I don't want to ruin everything we worked for. So I kept my mouth shut after the kiss, and so was Tyler. He was speechless. I don't know why, but I think it's because he thought I'd be mad about the surprised kiss which is the total opposite. I'm happy because our plan is working. Did you how many were girls glaring at me a while ago? A lot. I'm also happy because he's a good kisser. I know I shouldn't think about that since we're friends, but I can't help it. I think I actually felt some sparks a while ago, but this is not about me, this is about helping Tyler live a slut-free life. So, I have to behave. This is strictly bussiness and nothing else.
He slowly nodded. "I just thought of that um.. during halftime, but you were performing already, so I didn't have time to tell you, but you're right we should do it more like in the party later."
"I'm not going." I immediately said.
He stopped when the light turned red, and looked at me. "Again? What do you have against parties?" He asked, intently.
"Nothing, I'm just not in the party mode." I used a lame excuse which he didn't believe as he gave me a 'Really?-I-don't-believe-you' look.
"Tell me the truth." He looked at me intensely.
I sighed. I guess I have to tell the truth.
"I'm bad with alcohol." I confessed.
"How bad?"
"The last time I had a hangover, I woke up in a dog house, two blocks away from the party. It wasn't even the way to my house, until today, I still don't know what happened to me."
Tyler laughed, harder than he ever laughed before. It came to the point wherein he was crying because of laughing. "You got to be kidding me." he said in between laughs.
"It's true. Ever since that day, Hailey never lets me touch any alcohol, and do you know how hard it is to restrain yourself when you're in a party surrounded with beer and you can't even have a taste?" It was rhetorical question. "Very hard. Have you ever been in a party wherein you're the only one who is sober?"
He shook his head.
"Well, I have. When a person is drunk they have their own language that only drunk people can only understand, and since I've been sober for almost a year, I can't talk to them. Parties suck when you're sober. You don't have anyone to talk to or have fun at all. Even Hailey abandons me in parties when she's getting drunk, and the weird part is, Hailey's still a responsible person when she's drunk. Sometimes, I try to drink, thinking she won't remember anything since she's not in a great state of mind, but she still stops me, and she lets me drive when she's drunk." I still can't believe how she does it.
I'm telling you, Hailey has been there in my up's and down's (mostly my down's), and she never left me at all. She's like the perfect care package for me. Even when she has had many bottles of beer, she still thinks about me, and whenever I look at alcohol, she'll drink it for me, so I won't be tempted to drink it. Now, that's what I call a friend!! (A hint of sarcasm is included.)
