The girl came to a stop next to Taylor, leaning against the bar top. She kept her gaze locked on those bright blue eyes, finally breaking the silence. "Hi there." She said softly, a shy smile on her face.
"Hi." Taylor managed to mumble back.
"Is this seat taken?" She asked, gesturing to the stool next to Taylor.
Taylor looked around to see if anyone was near her. The closest person to her other than this mystery woman was the bartender who was on the other side of the bar cleaning a rack of glasses. She looked up at the woman and quickly shook her head, her cheeks blushing red as she stared at the bar top and tried to avoid the girl's stare.
Sitting down on the stool, the green eyed girl turned to face Taylor. She watched the girl's cheeks turn red and smiled at the sight. She thought the woman was really beautiful and while looking at her, she realized she had the bluest eyes she'd ever seen. After a few moments of studying the girl in silence, she hummed to herself. "Hm. Very interesting."
Taylor tilted her head to meet the girl's stare. She nervously tucked a loose curl behind her ear. "What's interesting?"
"Oh. I just figured out why the sky was so gray today. All the blue is in your eyes." The girl returned smoothly.
Taylor rolled her eyes and tried to hide her blush. "Wow. What a line. How many girls have you used that one on?"
"Well what can I say; you're so beautiful that you made me forget my good pickup line." The girl's smile stretched wide enough that Taylor could see all her teeth. It wasn't forced; it was a warm genuine smile.
Taylor couldn't help but smile back. The girl was bold; more bold than she would ever be. "You know, my mom always told me never to talk to strangers." Taylor replied, loosening up a bit and doing her best to keep up with this girl.
The girl tilted her head back and laughed. "Fair enough." She put on a serious face as she extended her hand towards Taylor. "I'm Karlie. Karlie Kloss."
Smiling at the formality of it all, Taylor returned the gesture and shook her hand. "Taylor. Taylor Swift."
"It's nice to meet you Taylor." Karlie smiled at her genuinely and released her hand.
Karlie's hands felt soft and warm. Taylor felt like she wasn't talking to a stranger, but more like she was talking to an old friend. Karlie had a strange way of already making her feel at ease. The girl had a warmth to her smile and her eyes that made you feel happy and understood.
Karlie was the first to break the silence.
"So tell me something Ms. Taylor." Karlie placed her elbow on the bar top, resting the side of her head on her knuckles. "What is a gorgeous girl like you doing sitting over here all by yourself?" She gazed thoughtfully at the girl across from her, genuinely wondering how someone as beautiful as Taylor was sitting alone at the bar.
"My friends managed to drag me out of the house tonight. They're a bit more social than I am. Being the single friend in a group of couples isn't always the most fun situation to be in. Anyway, last I knew, they were heading towards the dance floor with your group actually." Taylor said, nodding her head in the direction of the dance floor.
"Ahh. That explains it. I wondered where they had stumbled off to. I thought maybe they just left and weren't going to tell me or something." Karlie replied with a light laugh. She turned her head and quickly scanned the floor for her friends that were nowhere to be found. She turned her attention back to the girl sitting next to her; relieved to have some time alone with this girl. "That's ok. It works out better for me this way."
