After Ryder was finally reunited with his pups, work began to remove the foreign object from Chase's body. Katie, Marshall and Rocky teamed up for his surgery. Meanwhile, Ryder and the other pups helped around town, helping with whatever troubles arose. Mayor Goodway made sure that the issues were necessary for PAW Patrol to complete, and not just some odd jobs. She knew Ryder and his team needed time for themselves, especially after dealing with Humdinger.
Chase's surgery took a long, painstakingly long, 57 hours. By that time, Katie, Marshall and Rocky were sleep deprived and exhausted. Thanks to their determination, they were able to remove whatever it was that Humdinger had placed inside of Chase. Lucky for the pup, it was underneath his fur, so he was up and about within about 2 weeks time. No more pain. No more mood swings.
Ryder was still cautious, however, even more so with his recent discovery. The pups all came from Humdinger's lab. There was no doubt in his mind that Humdinger knew of this. Ryder spent weeks trying to come up with a plan, consulting with Mayor Goodway every now and then. "Whatever you do, Ryder, it won't be held against you," she had assured him. But he had doubts.
Humdinger hadn't struck or made an appearance. While the pups were relieved, Ryder knew he had to be planning something. No doubt it would be worse than any of them could have imagined.
Katie and the pups all supported him, no matter what he would do. He saw past their smiling faces and into their scarred, traumatized souls. No amount of therapy would help any of them. That is what angered him the most. Humdinger had hurt his pups. His friends. His family. He couldn't stand to see them suffer through everything, all thanks to Humdinger.
Ryder had made his decision.
"PAW Patrol, to the Lookout." The pups arrived quickly, donning their uniforms, prepared for anything.
"Ready for action, Ryder, sir!" Chase said proudly. The pups smiled at his miraculous recovery. He was back to normal, more or less.
"Pups, as you know, we haven't heard from Humdinger in months," Ryder said, faltering slightly with his authoritative tone.
"That's great!" Marshall said.
"Yeah, what do we have to worry about?" Rubble asked.
"It worries me," Ryder said. "He hurt each and every one of you guys in a way I'll never be able to fully understand. I can't risk that happening again."
"What are you saying?" Rocky asked with his head tilted.
Ryder sighed. "I'm saying..."
Author's Note: I know you're screaming (literally, mentally or both), but let me explain. I decided it was time to ramp things up a bit before the next chapter. You could call this hype. I probably am trying to hype you up. Who knows?
I do xD
In all seriousness, though, I figure I've dragged this story on long enough. It's time for some real action (like there hasn't been enough action already). It's time for the main climax of this story.
I hope you enjoy Wednesday's chapter.
