Ash's POVI woke up not in the arms that held me the night before but alone in the cold room. I swing my legs over the edge of the bed and get up running my fingers through my hair trying to work the knots out from sleeping.
I glance over at the walls and see the names of people who scare me and haunt me in my dreams. Dreams are supposed to be your escape from reality but nightmares remind us that not everything is as we think it is and brings us back to the cruel world. My dreams only consist of nightmares and never ending near death experiences.
'You put yourself in this situation Ash' a voice says in my head. As much as I hate to admit it I can't deny it. I didn't have to go to dauntless I could've stayed.
But it seemed like I was bound to be dead either which way. If only that dauntless part of me didn't control my mind and it's now decisions.I walk over crossing my arms across my chest and starring out the unbreakable window at the fields that belong to the Amity. I look down to see the pavement of the path leading into this building but I immediately regret it and back away from the window.
I hear the door open then someone clear their voice. "How bad do you want to leave?" Peter's voice echoes in my ear.
"I don't know..." I say trailing off keeping my eyes to where the fence no longer stands and there is wild grassland and tall trees.
"Is it because of them?" He asks soon standing by my side. I glance over through my hair to see him looking out the window. I shrug not willing to open up to him about the subject.
"What if I could get you out, would you leave?"
"And do what? Run and hide? Seems like every single cliche action story." I tuck a strand of hair behind my ear and fully look at him.
"Well it's not cliche when your hero isn't trying to burst his way in to sweep you off your feet." He says looking over causing me to quickly look away. I feel my cheeks heat up and my heart skip a beat.
"He'd be dead if he tried."
"Are you sure about that?" He says with a small smile. "What if I was that hero."
"Well it was nice knowing you." I joke around with a smile on my chapped lips. He lets out a low chuckle shaking his head. "I would not die these people are wussies."
"And your cocky what's your point?" We both laugh a little then he puts on a serious. "You know it may not seem like it but I care about you." My mind begins to race along to the beat of my pounding heart.
"I mean I care about you living. I've seen the plans your almost no use to Jeanine anymore. Four isn't coming to save you." I tense at the use of his nickname.
"Don't talk about him." I snap not meaning to. Peter looks a bit taken back but seems to back off of the subject.
"How about if I get you out of here you'll convince the stif to come here." He says a nervous tone to his voice.
Tris's life for my own.
No more torture.
No more worries.
No more fear.
He's offering me freedom from this place. But Tris's life is at risk...would I really trade her in for me? To take my position and suffer?
After what seems like forever of silence I find myself looking out the windows to the open grassy lands. I feel my mind aching to know what's out there in a free world.
I could run away for good and never see these buildings ever again. Maybe even take Peter with me.
I find myself soon nodding and shaking his large hand that was extended to me "It's a Deal."
