Jason's pov
I'm pissed off. I'm gonna go give that gunman a piece of my damn mind. I grind my cigarette under my boot then go into the station. "The shooter I wanna talk to him now!" I gripe. He points me the way and I walk back there. I slam open the door and if it wasn't for the handcuffs holding him to the table, he'd have fallen out of his chair. I sit down across from him. "What is the point of killing innocent nine year old boys?" I growl, furious. He doesn't answer so I punch him in the face. "You better cooperate. I'm not a very patient man." "Fuck off." He's pushing his luck. I grab his shirt, picking him up out of the seat, the handcuff pulling him down. "You killed a child! Why? What did you do it for?!" I scream. He still won't tell me. He just smirks. I throw him back down. "I'm about to knock that smirky little grin right off your face!" I growl, punching him repeatedly. "Please have mercy!" He chokes out, blocking his face with his hands. "All my mercy got kicked outta me at the academy. Plus I bet you didn't have mercy when you were shooting children you fucking pshyco! My daughter coulda been there. Do you really think-" "That's enough officer!" My hands freeze. Cheif. I turn around. "Hey sir when did you get here?" "I've been here the whole time!" "He deserves what he's getting! He killed a ten year old boy! I'm just giving that kid justice!" "Jason, go home and rest. I know this has taken a lot out of you." He says. I glare at the douchebag. He's still smiling. I get one more punch in before Chief threatens to taze me if I don't go home. I sigh and leave. That jerk deserves to die. I get home where Miranda is holding Sierra up. She's starting to walk. "Jason, you're just in time!" She gasps. At least being with my girls will help get this crap off my mind. I change into more comfortable clothes. "She's starting to get the hang of it." I smile and kneel down on one knee. "Come on sweetheart you can do it! Come to daddy!" She stumbles over and falls into my arms. We both cheer. "My little girl is growing up." She says, hugging me.

Miranda's pov
Jason makes dinner while Sierra holds onto the coffee table trying to walk some more. I smile watching her. I turn my attention to the TV when I hear Jason's name. It shows security footage of him yelling at some guy in handcuffs. "Hey Jason you're on the news!" I call. He walks out of the kitchen. "Oh that. I was interrogating that school shooter." "Interrogating. More like beating the shit out of." "Hey he deserved every lick I gave him." I stand up quickly. "I agree 100% I wish that damn chief of yours didn't stop you." I gripe. His face softens. "Oh, I thought you were mad for a second." "Nope. What do you think the verdict will be?" "Life in prison. The fucker deserves the death penalty if ya ask me." He grumbles. "Life in prison! That isn't a punishment! He gets 3 meals a day, a roof over his head, a bed! That's more like a hotel!" I shout angrily. He smiles. "I was thinkin' the same thing. I hate that I can't just kill him. Sometimes I wish it was back in the old days where we settled this like men. Shoot 'em up cowboys. Real gunslingers ya know." I nod. "Me too." The smoke detector starts going off. "Whoops! I think dinner's burned." He says, rushing back into the kitchen.
Jason's pov
I turn the burner off and throw the burnt food in the trash. "Hey babe, let's go out to eat." "Ok. I just have to get Sierra ready." I walk back out. "I'll do it." I say, picking the little one year old up. She smiles and I kiss her forehead. Miranda goes to get ready while I take Sierra to the nursery. I get her dressed in a camo shirt that says daddy's little huntress. "Dada!" She gasps, reaching for me. My jaw drops. "Baby, Sierra just said her first word!" I shout. Seconds later, Miranda appears in the doorway, one shoe on, her dress half on. "Really what was it?" She cries. "Dada." I say then Sierra copies me. Miranda's eyes tear up in happiness. "Oh my gosh! My baby is talking and walking!" She cries, wiping her eyes. I pick Sierra up and walk to Miranda and kiss her. "You mean our baby, sweetheart." She hugs me tight. "Oh Jason, I don't know where we'd be without you." "I know where I'd be. Bored as hell and lonely as fuck." Then Sierra says fuck and my eyes go wide. "Let's refrain from swearing around the baby." She says. I nod and we both laugh. She finishes getting ready and we go eat.
*one week later*
I'm patrolling in my squad car when I pass by the mother and the little blind girl crying on the same park bench I found Miranda and Sierra on! I stop the car. "Are you two alright?" The girl gasps when she hears me. "It's the officer that saved me!" She gasps. I smile and nod. Then I realize she can't see that. "Yep, that's me." I get out. "She's having a difficult time with Eric passing away." Her mother says. "I never did get y'alls names the other day." "Oh I'm Rachel and this is my daughter Sierra." "Wow! That's my daughter's name!" I gasp, surprised. The little girl jumps off her mom's lap. She hugs my legs and I bend down and hug her tight. "I'm so sorry I couldn't save your friend." "It isn't you who should be sorry. It's that evil shooter." She whimpers, crying on my shoulder. Poor kid. "I wish I coulda gotten there in time." I tell Rachel. "It's not your fault. Thank you for saving Sierra. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to her." Her daughter kisses my cheek and goes back to her mom. "Do you need a lift home?" I ask. "Oh no. My husband is picking us up and we're going to go to the service." The service. I think I'm gonna go to that. "Could you tell me where it is. I want to go and pay my respects." I say, pulling out a notepad and pen. She gives me the address and we part ways. I finish my rounds and get back home. "Hey Miranda, I'm going to the service of that little boy later tonight. Ya wanna come?" "Yeah but I don't want Sierra going to that." She says, walking out. "I'll call Luke then." I say, pulling out my phone. "Hey dude, do ya think you can babysit Sierra tonight?" "Sorry man, I've got a show tonight. But I'm sure Caroline wouldn't mind." "Could you ask her for me?" I can hear him calling to her. "Yeah she's free. And I'm sure Sierra will have fun playing with Bo and Tate and the dogs." "No wait, the dogs will have to be put up Sierra is allergic to dogs." Miranda says quickly. I tell Luke and he says they'll put them up.

We drop her off with Caroline and go to the service after that we go to pick Sierra up but she's asleep. So we just hang around waiting for her to wake up. Caroline made some apple pie for dessert so we're eating that while chatting and watching Luke's concert on tv. He stops mid song and is talking to someone in the crowd. "Hey guys, it's..." He pauses. "It's Alexis's 21st birthday today." He says, pulling her onstage. "I love how great he is with his fans." Caroline says. "We're gonna drink your first beer right here onstage." He says. The girl is giddy with excitement. He signs a CD for her and sings his drunk version of happy birthday to her. Then someone gives him a couple beers. "Cheers, happy twenty first birthday." He says. They clink beers and drink on the stage. "Man, she's a lucky girl." Miranda says. I nod. "Luke is so great with his fans. He always tries to make them happy." Before she goes she says she has a question for Luke. "That special guest at your show last time, when's he coming back?" Wait, is she talking about me? "Who?" "The guy that sang drunk ass home with you last week?" "Oh my buddy Jason. He's actually someone on my security team. He's not here tonight but I'll ask him." I smile. He gives her tickets to the next show. "I'll talk to Jason. Maybe I'll let him do a whole set by himself." My face gets red. "Yeah he's great. I hope he becomes a regular on your shows Luke." "Thank you princess." He replies, hugging her. "Wow, see I told you. They love you." My girl says. I smile. "I definitely would love to play with Luke year round."
