I told him, he wasn't his so I wouldn't ruin his life

Chapter 7

I spent the entire day working around the house, Carter was being oddly great with everything. He didn't fuss or give me a hard time which is really unusual for him. I guess he just wanted to make me happy because of what happened this morning. I did find a new place for my spare key and I called A.J and told her to never tell him where the key was again. This time she agreed with me. I was making dinner when there was a knock at the patio door. I glanced and saw three boys standing there peaking inside my house like it was some new world. I laughed and opened the door. 

"Hello gentleman can I help you?" I smiled and saw Jesse among the guys. 

Jesse moved so he was closer to me and laughed. "You see, well we kind of don't have anything to eat... because Darren's girlfriend isn't here and she always feeds us. Otherwise we're helpless."

I stared at them for a good five minutes before laughing. Three grown men who looked to be in their twenties, couldn't cook for themselves. Really? That's just so... pathetic. . I shook my head and turned back to the stove.

"Shouldn't you learn how to cook for yourselves...you're not going to have someone around all the time to fix food for you." I stirred the mash potatoes while trying to keep the smile off my face. 

This time the voice that spoke wasn't Jesse it was one of the other guys that were trying to invade my kitchen. "Come on...we won't be that much trouble...plus won't it be fun...we all love kid foods...cause we're like big kids...so it won't even be an issue." I could practically hear the begging in his voice. Finally cracking I turned to look at the three of them and sighed.

"Fiiinne, you guys can come over..." Instantly after the words left my mouth all three boys were hooting and hollering. It was like I had just told them that they had won a million dollars. It made me wonder if me cooking really was a big deal. 

"Dinner is in twenty minutes, Carter's in the living room if you want to watch his shows with him." I told them as I peeked over into the living room to see if my baby was okay. I smiled widely as I watched him talking to the tv as if they could hear him and respond. A few seconds later, the three guys came into my vision as they started to watch the television with my son. It was such a weird sight, I don't think Carter had ever been around three men before at one time...three strange men. Quickly I turned the burners on the stove down and then walked over to the couches. 

"Carter, this is Jesses, Darren and Alex. They live next door and they came to have dinner with us." I told him, I couldn't help but smile as he turned to look at me and nodded. I could tell that the situation really hadn’t sunk in with him completely yet. He was still too busy enjoying what he was watching. When dinner time comes I think things will be a bit different.

About an hour later I had finally got everything cooked and called the boys and my boy over to set the table. Once that was done we were ready to eat. I was so excited because we hadn’t had mashed potatoes for the longest time. Carter was on a no potato kick, he flat out refused to eat them in any form.

Ater serving everyone I sat down and we started to eat. I could hear a collective groan of happiness from all the boys and I coudn't stop myself from laughing a little. 

"Do you guys like it?" I asked with a huge smile on my face. With out any hesitation all three of them started to nod their heads enthusiastically. They couldn't even open their mouthes too much because they were so full off food. 

Finally when everyone had their second..or third helping, the guys helped me rise and put the dishes in the dishwasher. "Thank you so much." Darren said before hugging me. For a second I just stood there before I hugged him back. I wasn't use to hugging people I didn't know too well just yet. "No problem." I told them putting a cool smile on my lips. Darren and Alex said their goodbyes and then left, going back over to their house but Jesse stayed behind. 

"Thanks...again you didn't have to let us stay." He said while leaning up against the cabinet.

"You didn't give me much of a choice did you?" I said with a laugh. 

"No..I guess we didn't....well I'll see you around." Jessed smirked and then he waved. The next thing I knew he was out the door going back across the lawn that seperated our two houses. 

Shaking my head I went over to Carter who was already falling asleep, and took him upstairs to take his bath. Of course he wasn't so happy about that but he got over it once I poured bubbles in. That was one thing he loved, was playing with bubbbles. Once he was all nice a clean I got him out and dryed him, then slipped his batman pajamas on. 

"Story." Carter demanded when I finally got him into his bed. He stuck his bottom lip out and kept looking from me to the book he wanted me to read.

"Not a long one." I said before grabbing the book and sitting on the bed. I flipped through the pages until I found a story I knew he would love. "Once upon a time...there was a prince..." Before the story was even finished Carter was fast asleep. I kissed his precious head and then pulled his blankets up around him. "Night baby." With that I turned out the big light in his room and then made my way to my own room. Today had been...interesting at the very least. I still couldn't believe how self centered and rude Gabe was being. I don't think he understood anything anymore. 

I don't know what I'm going to do about him...oh welll that's a problem for another day.
