Chapter Twenty

Aubrey had quickly snapped out of her hazed thoughts when she had heard Gwin screaming. Only after that piercing scream echoed through her mind and body did she realize that everyone was in danger.

Before she even had time to register if her other sisters were alive, she grabbed Gwin and Quinn’s arm and dragged them towards her car. She let go of her sister’s arm and carried on pulling the hysterical Gwin to the right side. Her sister just stood there as Aubrey pushed Gwin into the car. “Get in the car Quinn,” She begged. But Quinn showed no response, she stood there with her face looking furious and confused. “Get in the damn car!” Aubrey smacked her hand hard onto the roof of her Mercedes and instantly Quinn shook herself awake and dived inside the vehicle.

After that it didn’t really take long for Aubrey to push the car in gear and speed off towards the diner. She was shaking all over and her heart was beating too fast for her breath to catch up. She lifted her hand and pushed her matted hair away from her face. She felt the sweat clinging to every ounce of her body and her hands began to shake. “Come on Bree, you can do this.” She looked into the rear view mirror and saw Gwin covering her mouth as if holding in a scream.

“This is my entire fault.” Quinn insisted.

“This is nobody’s fault Quinn,” She turned around to show her sister she didn’t blame her, but had to quickly swivel back when she heard a car horn. She twisted the wheel away from the oncoming driver and cursed under her breath. “Nobody knew that was going to happen.”

“I wish father had drained her, stopped the agony of having to live with this lie!”

Aubrey slammed her hands on the wheel and turned for a split second. “Shut up Quinn! Just shut up!”

“No!” The next thing she saw was Quinn diving over the back seat and ripping Gwin’s seat belt. Aubrey turned quickly and then looked in the rearview mirror. The frightened Gwin was on Quinn’s lap and her baby sister’s fangs were out and glistening. Any other day she would be happy to see that she was planning on using them but that was not the idea she had right now. “I should just drain her! She just a bag of blood, right? We should just drain her for what she is!”

Gwin began to scream now and Aubrey had millions of thoughts running in her mind. So many options and little time to plan them out before acting. She looked back quickly but glanced onto the road every few seconds. “Quinn, listen to me. You are not very well you don’t want to do this!”

“What are you?” Gwin screamed.

“Shut up Gwin!” Aubrey yelled and looked back. “Please Quinn, listen to me!”

Aubrey had no idea what she was doing. She was so scared that Quinn was going to do something she would later regret, but Aubrey couldn’t stop the car. She was given a task, to take them to the diner and that was what she was going to do no matter what.

Her sister looked deep into her eyes and Aubrey sensed the realization of what Quinn was doing. She turned back to the road and saw she’d left it to long to turn the corner; she had no choice but to turn the wheel hard. The car skidded and all Aubrey heard was a heartbreakingly loud scream as the car flipped into the air and landed hard onto its back. She heard a silent hissing noise and the smell of petrol fumes before she slipped into darkness.
