Chapter Six

Aubrey was stood by her locker when Cyrus appeared. She sensed him before she saw him, it was his sweet cologne; his aura that was enough to override Aubrey’s senses. She took a deep breath and shut her locker. That was the only downside to this day; she had a free period, which obviously meant she would bump into Cyrus.

“What do you want from me?” Aubrey asked. She didn’t take her eyes away from her locker; she just started to peel off random stickers. She wasn’t actually sure how they got stuck on there, but her guess was Quinn. Her little sister liked to be mischievous; that was what she loved about her.

“B,” She looked at him without even meaning too. It had been years since he called her that, in such a sincere way. Her heart was melting all over again and she told herself not to fall back into the same loop hole. Love was something that was unconditional, but it could also be painful. To drag your heart out of love after a painful ending was hard, and to try and rebuild something so broken was unimaginable but here she was falling for him all over again. “I missed you so much when we went away…”

“When you went away” She walked around him and headed down the hallway, she wasn’t going anywhere in particular but if she stayed here any longer she would defiantly dive on him and plant him with uncontrollable kisses; and that was irritating. He followed her of course, but she didn’t slow for him, he just easily caught up. He was fast at running and even walking that was his gift.

“Aubrey please” She wasn’t slowing down and it wasn’t like he was going to go supersonic to catch up with her. Well, that was what she suspected anyway, if he did she would defiantly hide away forever.  He was getting annoyed she could tell, he was trying to keep pace with her. His hand reached out and grabbed her left arm. “Aubrey stop.”

She did. Not because he told her too, but because he had technically stopped her. “What?” She shrugged and he let go, taking a few steps back to give her space. “What do you want me to say Cyrus? That I love you, that I want you back in my life?”

“That would be great,” He laughed, as he puffed for breath. She didn’t want to but she began to smile. “Aubrey I love you, so much and today when I saw you again, properly, I wanted you so bad.”

She shook her head. The fact he wanted her back at the click of his fingers was not the most romantic gesture she had encountered but truth be told their love was still there. Before his sudden disappearance they had been partners for over twenty years; though to humans they just stuck to two. She wanted him she wasn’t denying that.

“Cyrus…” She just didn’t know how to say it without falling down again. “I can’t…”

“You can’t love me?” He asked.

“No,” She huffed in frustration and rubbed her fallen hair from her forehead. “Of course I love you, I love you so much…but you hurt me Cyrus I cannot just pretend that didn’t happen. You left, not I and my sisters were left picking up the pieces that you scattered. No goodbye, no I love you…you just got up and left.”

“It wasn’t like that B and you know it!” She knew he had a right to be angry. Cyrus had never been the type to just leave unless he really needed too. Love meant a lot to Cyrus, particularly with family, which could only mean that was the reason he left. Though the pain would never leave as quickly and it never truly would.

“Then what was it like Cyrus?” Tears welled up in her eyes and his once firm and composed face turned softer.  “I felt like I couldn’t breathe when you left! I was young, I didn’t understand anything.” Tears fell from her eyes and she whimpered knowing that he was seeing this, feeling the same pain she was. His face said it all; guilt, anger, love. “I was fifty Cyrus; I shouldn’t have been broken at such a young age.”
