Chapter Ten
Cyrus was sat on the sofa reading a magazine when Julian came running downstairs; late. “Well,” Cyrus laughed. “You were home late.” He knew where his brother was, he could sense it the moment he attempted to sneak out his window. Cyrus had just gotten back from dropping Aubrey home and had laughed at his brother trying to shimmy down the drain pipe. His room was fortunately right next door to Julian’s, and he had practically stuck his head out the window to watch.
“What?” Julian’s voice turned a bit girly when he squealed that. Cyrus laughed and rolled up the magazine as he climbed to his feet. Julian cleared his throat and his face went serious. “I don’t know what you’re on about.”
Cyrus smacked him over the head with the rolled up magazine. His brother was a poor liar, alongside a poor flirt. He could read him like the magazine he had in his hand.
“I saw you shimmying down the drainpipe,” He made a squirming motion and then laughed as he walked towards the kitchen. Julian laughed behind him and mumbled to himself but Cyrus didn’t really register his words.
“Luka,” His brother was drinking a coffee with his head in his hands. “Late night?”
“I was drinking,” He moaned. “If that’s what you were going to inquire.”
“No surprise there then...” Dimitri laughed as he rummaged through the cupboards. He always ate, Cyrus found it near enough impossible to understand how his brother was still physically fit with the amount of food he consumed in a day. There was no surprise that the head cheerleader found him so downgrading from her last boyfriend; he didn’t eat as much as Dimitri.
“Shut up you little shit!” Luka threw an apple core at his brother’s head just as Isaac came into the kitchen.
“What the hell is going on this morning?” He looked around at them all, Cyrus could only shrug he honestly didn’t know what his brother was on about. “Has a plague rolled over the sea, or is everyone always this idle.”
“Oh you can it as well you…” Luka was about to say something else but Dimitri dropped a pan onto the floor, and Luka screeched out and clutched his head. “Oh for god sake! Is no one in this house aware of their own noise?”
Cyrus unrolled his magazine as Dimitri placed a coffee in front of Cyrus. He took a drink and sighed as the hot favour melted his taste buds. It was always refreshing to take that first drink of fluid after hours without a drop.
Julian soon walked in, and yanked a piece of toast off Dimitri; he cried out and then turned back towards the toaster. Julian walked towards the fruit, with the toast in his mouth, and eyed his choice.
Cyrus would rather eat chocolate, he was so unhealthy but he supposed exercise counterweighed that. Alexander walked into the kitchen looked at the three of them and shook his head. “You all set a great example for Isaac and Dimitri I must say.” Julian threw an apple at Alex, Luka picked up a coffee bean and threw it and Cyrus smacked his brother over the head with his magazine as he walked past.
Alexander just laughed, picked up his own coffee and walked back out of the room, his mate was round Violet; she was nice but she was a bit crazy, well in a sense that she sounded high as a kite when she spoke.
Luka slumped further into his chair as Isaac turned up his music on his headphones. It was pretty loud but he had no issue of going death any time soon, it’s not like he ever listened to anybody anyway.
“I’m telling you now, Lisa knows how to drink.” He leaned back and sighed. “That girl was like a whale man, she out drunk me, she carried me home” he exclaimed. Cyrus sat in front of him and just stared with one eyebrow raised. “Oh my bloody head. Isaac!” Luka practically screamed. Cyrus jumped and looked around. Isaac was walking around with his headphones. “Will you turn that down for god sake?”
Cyrus laughed and carried on reading; Isaac flagged his brother but turned it down anyway. “Where the hell are you going, bro?” Dimitri asked. Cyrus looked up as Julian was collecting his keys from the hook. “I thought we were meant to hit the gym before class this morning?”
“He has a date.” Luka moaned with his head on the table.”
“No I don’t!” Julian hissed. “It’s not a date if I’m taking her to school with me. So you get some hangover tablets, you turn that music off its crap and Dimitri if you want a lift to the gym I will drop you off on the way.”
Luka stood up and went to the tablet cabinet, Dimitri went to collect his coat and Isaac turned his music up instead of down. Cyrus knew he wouldn’t listen.
“You do know that she’s human brother,” He whispered out of ear shot. Not that any of them were listening. Luka’s head was back on the table, Isaac had his music up…again and Dimitri was getting his jacket. “I mean I like the girl, I do, but can you protect her if anything happens?”
“You don’t know what she’s been through Cy,” Julian grabbed his brother’s arm and guided him outside; Cyrus knew it was just in case one of them was listening. “She told me everything last night, she’s been through hell and besides Bree was right…I can’t keep avoiding it. However hard I try she’ll keep coming back to me, just like Bree did to you.”
“I know that,” Cyrus added. Julian had told him the first day Gwin had arrived that there was something about her, and Cyrus knew she would make a great mate but there was something dark about her, something hidden. He would ask his father to identify it but he would be risking her life if he involved his father. “Just…Keep an eye on her alright; I’ll see you at lunch.” Julian smacked his brothers back as Dimitri came out. He slapped Julian around the back of the head and sprinted towards the car.
“Oh the little git…” Julian hissed as he went after him.
Cyrus walked back into the room and Isaac and Luka were both looking at him. “Alex!” Cyrus shouted as he closed the door and walked towards the table.
“Is it true then?” Isaac asked as he stood beside his brother. He put his iPod to the side and leant against the table. “Is he with the human girl?”
“She has a name doufess.” Luka moaned.
Alex came from around the corner and looked at them all in turn. “Who has a name?” He asked. None of them really wanted to say anything, they didn’t. But Cyrus knew deep down that if anybody could help it was their older brother; it helped too that he was out of schools radar. Gwin needed someone on the outside as well as in. That was why Cyrus told him. That was why he said Julian had found his mate. That was why he told his brother she was human.
