Chapter 22

I look at Gwen in a disbelieving manner, "What?"

"He's my son." She replies.

"He's not here." I reply opening the gate to walk in but let Alex go in first.

"Oh right, I'll come round again later, at least I know where he lives." She says looking at the house.

I shut the gate behind me and grab Alex's hand to pull him inside of the house, whilst Gwen goes. I unlock the front door and walk in, Alex follows.

"MUM? DAD?" I shout.

"YEAH?" They reply in sync from the sitting room.

I walk in, "A lady called Gwen Pierce followed me home, saying that she was Ryan's Mum."

I know that Ryan had a different Mum to me, but I don't know who it could be, she could be lying.

"Gwen?" Mum asks.

"She said she'll be coming round later." I say looking up at the clock, which read 4 o'clock.

"Right, ermm...” Dad says trying to think of something.

"Why did Ryan's Mum leave?" I ask.

"Not now." Mum says with an annoyed expression.

"Okay, I'll go then." I say walking out.

"Wait, why was she following you?" Mum asks.

"Cause I have a big 'Ryan's little sister' sign on the top of my head. I don't know." I reply sarcastically.

"No need for sarcasm." Mum glares at me.

"If I knew what had happened then I wouldn't be in an empty box." I say quietly.

"Sit down." Dad says.

"No, you don't have to tell her." Mum says holding onto Dad's arm.

"No, it's fine, she needs to know." Dad says gesturing for me to sit.

I follow his order and listen intently.

"Ryan's Mu- Gwen used to..." He takes a deep breath, "Abuse Ryan." He whispers.

"What?" I ask in shock.

"He was only little, I thought he was bashing into things, like little kids do." Dad takes another deep breath. "He used to have bruises and cuts all of the time. One day, I had come home early after work and I opened the door to see Gwen holding a knife on Ryan's little chest."

I gasp in shock.

Dad continues, "She slashed his chest, a little deep and he was crying, crying so much. I screamed at her and quickly called the ambulance. He lost a lot of blood; he was on the brink of dying." Dad sniffs and wipes the falling tear. "He doesn't remember, better off. But he has that scar on his chest. We told him it was a birthmark when he asked. But as he got older, he found out." Dad sighs. "The same day, I came home from the hospital with Ryan, I packed Gwen's stuff and kicked her out. I would never put my child in that danger. She tried coming back and begging for forgiveness, but even to this day, I haven't forgiven her."

"My God." I say after moving my hand from my mouth.

"Yeah." Dad says.

"What are you going to do then?" I ask.
