Luke and I had been texting each other non-stop. We were getting to know each other.
L: Favourite colour?
B: Turquoise. Favourite ice-cream flavour?
L: Cookies n' cream. Most embarrassing moment?
B: Not telling.
L: Why not? Please?
B: Because it's embarrassing...
To which he just pouted adorably, and replied.
L: I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours.
B: What are we, part of some secret cult showing our bonded tattoos to each other?
L: We are the Illuminati.
B: And we shall take over the world, silently, lethally.
We just laughed and shook our heads at each other.
Pretty soon though, the bell rang, and the ground lit up. Well, not literally the ground, but tiny little lights which were placed almost such that they were invisible. They lit up and flashed, so all the students could know that it was dispersal.
Which was when I realised that I was there the whole morning. My mum was probably freaking out.
Who am I even kidding when I say 'probably'?
I called my mum. And... she was pissed.
"How dare you scare me like that? You, young lady, need to learn some manners! I sent you to drop your sister at school, and you didn't even return! I was so worried!"
"I'm sorry, mum," I replied meekly.
"You'd better be! Now leave right this instant, or you will be grounded for a year! Without any electrical devices! Is that clear?"
"Yes mum! Crystal! I'm leaving!" I yelled and hung up.
I got up and looked back at Luke, who got up as well. He just smiled and signed, You're in trouble with your mum?
No, she's just pissed, I replied, chuckling.
So, I guess I'll see you tomorrow? I asked him.
Not if I see you first, he replied, grinning widely. I just shook my head and waved him goodbye.
As I turned and walked away, I could feel my cheeks heating up as wide grim stretched across my face.
Nope, nope, stop. Stop blushing, you stupid cheeks. Stop grinning, you stupid mouth. Ugh, calm, Becca. Calm.
I jogged up the stairs to see Rory waiting there, conversing with her teacher. I caught the words 'play' and 'act'. Which, obviously, I was dead curious about.
Hello, there, I greeted Rory, who had now rushed over to hug my knees, almost falling over in the process. Her teacher just laughed, and signed and spoke at the same time once Rory was done.
"So, we're having a school play in a few months. It'll be like a pantomime, with no words. I was hoping that you could help us out. Rory here told me that you dance."
"Oh, um, yeah." Very nice, Becca.
"Would it be too much to ask if you could help out with the planning and execution and put together, like, a dance piece at the end?"
"I'd love to," I replied immediately. I mean, it wasn't like I did anything at home, anyway. I did have a job, but that was usually on the weekends. And besides, it's dance. I couldn't turn that down. I'd love to teach the kids.
