Percy's POV
I looked over at the girl who now shared my cabin.
I had Iris Messaged Annabeth and told her about Ashton, and she was completely shocked.
It was rare that demigods came from one of the Big 3, since we were technically forbidden.
I guess Kronos's kids liked to break the rules.
I was excited to finally have someone to share the cabin with, it could get pretty lonely in here. But I definitely didn't see it coming. She was just as much a surprise to me as she was to the rest of camp.
"P-Percy?" Ashton's voice quavered, capturing me from my thoughts.
"Yeah?" I rolled over on my bunk to face her.
"W-What's it like to have both parents?" She turned over in her bed, and I could tell that she had been crying.
"It's pretty great. Why wouldn't you know?" I questioned, confused.
"I-I'm in foster care. That's how I ended up at camp, my foster parents were abusive, and so I ran away while we were camping." I could tell she was fighting back tears.
"Oh, wow. I'm so sorry." I felt really bad for her, she was one tough cookie. "Hey, you wanna meet my mom? She would absolutely love you." I offered.
"I would like that." she smiled. "But, um, how?"
"Iris Messaging, its what Travis was using when you arrived. It's kinda like the demigod's form of Skype."
"Cool." She smiled slightly.
I searched my pockets, and pulled out a golden drachma. I went over to the corner and threw it in the fountain. "Oh Iris, goddess of the rainbow, will you accept my offering?"
Ashton laughed. "Wow, bro. That is one hilarious way of talking."
"Shut up, sis." We laughed, until the Iris Message connected.
Mom was sitting on the couch in our living room reading a book.
"Mom!" I said, and she jumped.
"Percy!" Excitement shimmered in her eyes. "How've you been?! I've missed you so much!"
"Good. Miss you too, Mom. But something's come up. There's someone I want you to meet." I gestured over to Ashton, and she came and stood beside me.
"Hey, I'm Ashton." Ashton said shyly.
Mom's eyes widened with a sense of recognition. "A-Ashton? It can't be."
"What do you mean?" I questioned. "Have you two met before or something?"
"Uh, Percy sweetie, there's something I need to tell you." She looked down at the ground, and I could swear I saw a tear slide down her cheek. "It was 15 years ago, right after your second birthday. Your father, Poseidon, had stopped in, and well, I ended up pregnant. I wasnt sure how I could make it with two kids, I was barely holding on with one. I wasn't going to abort the baby, so Poseidon suggested that we put the baby in the foster system, and retrieve her when I could take care of her. So, when she was born, I kissed her goodbye, and she was handed over to a good foster family. Not too long after, I married Gabe, and I knew I couldn't bring another child into the already bad situation, so I left it be. Just a few weeks after Gabe, well you know, I started searching for my baby girl again, I hadn't learned anything but her name, Ashton Jackson."
Ashton fell into my arms, and sobbed against my chest, as the Iris Message cut out. I stood there holding her for awhile, just letting her cry, protecting her the best I could,.
