Chapter 25

Ashton

I was resting my head on my pillow, listening to Connor's deep voice carry on, it was so good to hear his voice again.

When I collapsed I hadn't known what was going on. All I remember from the past 2 days was Connor and I training, and then hearing Connor's screams. Screams that haunt me.

"... Ashton?" Connor was obviously asking me a question. Oh great.

"What?" I said, trying to put the best 'I'm just so tired I have no idea what you just said' face on. Sadly, it didn't work.

"You weren't listening were you?" Connor laughed. "I'll let you off the hook for this one, but no promises for the next time it happens."

We laughed together, and it felt good to just be spending time with Connor, enjoying the moment.

"So what were you saying?" I grinned.

"I was asking if you were ready to go to the lake." His eyes shone.

"Really?! Can we?!" I was so excited.

"Nope. Gotcha!" He laughed.

I whacked his arm, and then gave him the saddest puppy-eyes I could muster. "Pwease??"

"Oh, I guess. Let me just get Will's permission." He winked, and headed to go find Solace, an Apollo kid, and one of the head "doctors" at the infirmary. When he returned he had a smile.

"Can we go?" I asked hopefully.

"Yup, you just have to take it easy." He smiled. "'Cause we all know that's gonna happen."

"Wow. Thanks. Nice to know how much faith you have in me." We laughed because we both knew I would hop in the lake right away, and heal my cuts, bruises, and weakness with water. One of the many perks of being Poseidon's kid I guess.

I carefully slid my legs out of bed, sliding on my blue converse. After I finished tying my shoes, I took Connor's hand and he helped me out of my bed.

As soon as I was up, my legs started to wobble. This had taken more out of me then I thought. Connor quickly held me up, and let me lean against him, wrapping his arm around me, giving me support. I looked up at him and smiled.

"Thanks." I whispered.

"Anytime Jackson." He kissed my forehead, and we continued to slowly make our way to the lake.

As soon as we got there, Connor helped lower me into the water, both of us not caring to stop at our cabins and change into our swimsuits. I concentrated, willing the water to strengthen me, heal me, and run through me.

Almost instantly I felt better. Refreshed, and ready to run, I used my hands to splash Connor, who was standing cautiously behind me, ready to help when needed. He jumped, and splashed me back, I grabbed his hand, and dragged him into the water, laughing, and squeezing his hand tight. As I pulled him under, I created an air bubble of water around us - so we could talk, and so he cold breathe.

"Whoa." He looked amazed. "How'd you do that?"

"Poseidon thing." He was right - I do use that excuse a lot. He hugged me.

"Ash, when I thought you were dead, I just, I realized how much you mean to me." There were tears welling in his eyes. "I love you Ashton Jackson. I love you with all of my heart."

I smiled the biggest smile I'm pretty sure I have ever smiled. "I love you too Connor Stoll."
