Piper's POV

Mom had told me her plan was going well. Connor and Ashton were on the quest together, and on their way to find me.

I knew Ashton and Connor would make a cute couple from the first time I saw them, but it was Mom's idea to enact the plan.

"Hey, Sparky." I looked over at the blonde to my left.

"Yeah?" He was fingering the area on his arm where he had an SPQR tattoo.

"I just wanted to thank you for taking this detour. I know you're looking forward to getting to Camp Jupiter, and seeing your friends, but I needed to do this for mom. Besides, it's kinda nice just having you to myself for a few days." I smiled.

"It's fine, Pipes. I totally get it, and friends can wait." He got up and came to sit by me.

"Thanks." I rested my head on his shoulder.

Connor

I looked over at Ashton's choppy raven hair resting on the bus window. Her blue green eyes were drifting off, and she was deep in thought.

"Ash?" She jumped, and I felt bad for bothering her.

"Yeah?" She looked tired.

"I'll keep watch." I said in a low tone. "You can sleep."

She smiled sleepily. "Thanks." She rested her head on my shoulder, and passed out almost instantly.

Chiron had insisted that we take public transit from Manhattan to Little Rock. Longest bus ride ever. Actually, I'm sure other bus rides could be longer, but I was tired and these seats weren't exactly comfortable.

I wasn't super pleased to be here, but Ashton it made it worthwhile. I needed to be here to protect her, I promised Percy. But it wasn't just the promise, I was starting to care for Ashton. I never wanted to leave her side. I leaned my head down on Ashton's choppy hair, just resting my eyes for a little bit...
