CHAPTER 7: SHE'S COME UNDONE

The Salvatore Boarding House

Elena had spent days locked up down in the basement, and Natalie hadn't been let in to see her. Caroline was coming over and then Matt was going to come over so that they could try to teach her to not rip out Matt's jugular but she really wanted to be able to see her sister at least once and try to spark some progress in her, but she had to talk to Stefan.

"Come on! Just because she was a bitch to Caroline doesn't mean that she's gonna act the same way towards me." the brunette girl complained as she looked at the self-righteous bunny hunter in front of her that was standing with his arms crossed.

He sighed, and didn't really know how to explain why he wouldn't let her see Elena without getting killed. "Natalie, I can't let you of all people see her."

She tilted her head to the side as she narrowed her eyes, raising her eyebrows at him in a challenging fashion. "If I were you I would watch my next words very carefully."

"You know what I mean. You may be a little emotionally un-" he couldn't even finish his sentence before she cut him off, a dangerous glare on her face.

"You can still save yourself. Don't dig yourself down any deeper." she hissed, but sounded almost playful, so he knew she wouldn't really do anything that bad, but she'd totally do something and it wouldn't be good either.

He finally sighed in defeat, knowing that she could find a way to continue on all night. And all night meaning all nights the rest of eternity. "Fine. Let's go."

She smirked at him slightly as he started walking down the stairs and she followed. He stopped right by where Elena was groaning at the lack of blood she had gotten. Natalie winced as she knew how it felt. Stefan and Damon had tried the same method on her in her fateful week at the Salvatore Boarding House. "Good luck."

As Stefan left the twins alone, Natalie walked closer to her curly-haired sister, who opened her eyes and gave the younger vampire a dirty look. But Natalie shook his off as she took a deep breath, readying herself for whatever was going to happen. "Hey, Elena. Stefan finally let me down here, but he was a little worried about what was going to happen after everything you said to Caroline. But, for all I know there may have been some progress.

"Just stop. You're trying to act as if you're doing this because you care about what happens to me. When you're actually just doing this so you won't have another person leave you. You just don't want to accept that after you turned it back on you're once again just an insecure, pathetic, overemotional, clingy mess who doesn't know when it's time to let go. You don't even know that all it's doing is pushing everyone away." she said raspily, clearly just saying it to get a reaction.

Natalie rolled her eyes, knowing what and why she was saying what she was saying and did her best not to let it get to her. She knew that it was what Elena wanted. "I'm gonna let you do this to me, Elena. You're not gonna get to me this time."

The elder twin stared blankly back. "I'm not trying to get to you. I'm just telling you the truth. I mean, don't you wonder how you could have prevented Jeremy's death? If you'd been just a little better as a hunter, maybe you would've been able to fight back instead of simply passing out and you could've tried to save his life. If you can't even try to save anyone, what good will you be to anyone?"

"I'm done blaming myself for things that aren't my fault. You can't manipulate me anymore, Elena. I won't let you. I've already beat you in a fight when you were strong and feeding. You can't hurt me mentally or physically." Natalie told her sister, but she sounded a little desperate, as if she was rather trying to explain it to herself.
