*Back to Aurelia’s POV, thanks for bearing with me. I love you all in case you’ve forgotten.
I dreamed that night, for the first time in a very long time.
In this dream, I stood in front of a giant creature, with it’s entire being made of darkness, fearless. It was going to kill me and I knew this. It was a Dark Elder.
The creature transformed into, at first glance, a human. A human with such dark eyes that I didn’t want to be next to it, let alone be forced to stare into its’ eyes.
It began to speak and I cringed away from it’s voice, “Legends say that your aura has a different scent to each individual person. What do you smell?”
“The Delia flower,” my strong clear voice contrasted with my situation.
The creature’s laughter filled the room, “How ironic.”
He came closer and the creature’s hand stroked my cheek.
His touch was ice cold and willed myself to remain motionless.
The creature’s fingers traced down my cheek and I suppressed a shiver.
“Beautiful,” he leaned in closer to me, his forehead at my other cheek, “I can see why you picked her.”
Another burst of laughter.
For some reason, I knew that John was nearby.
As much as my dreaming self wanted to run to him, my dream self stayed frozen.
“How do you do it?” the creature began to circle me, binding me in threads of darkness that clung to my skin, “How do you live with the fact that you killed so many?”
“No,” I whispered, turning my face away, struggling to pull a bracelet of my wrist.
I don’t know what was so urgent about it but I needed it off.
It glowed a brilliant gold and was beautiful but for some reason, I hated it.
“Shall we go through a few of them?” the creature melded back into the shadows, “Your brother, your mother, Dylan, Henry, James, sweet Alex…”
I froze, what? Dylan? I didn’t understand.
“…countless of innocent civilians and let’s not forget the latest casualty, Josh.”
“What?” that made no sense, Josh was safe with Sophie.
Wait, who were these people that I was thinking about?
The dream continued.
“Josh was killed shortly after you broke through our defenses,” the Dark Elder continued, “He died protecting his sister.”
The dream rippled and faded.
I awoke hyperventilating, muffling my screams with a pillow.
It was the future.
And therefore, could not be stopped.
**
I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I got out of bed and began to think of how I could solve this problem.
Maybe- no it was useless, I’d tried changing the future before and it hadn’t worked.
In fact, it had miserably backfired.
It was worth a shot though. Kind of? No who was I kidding.
I just needed more time to think about- time. That was it!
