Runaway

"No!" Anthony screamed right before the gun went off.
A few seconds later, with still no pain from the bullet. I slowly opened my eyes, and I saw that no one got shot. I guess it hit a wall or something.
On the ground Anthony, Justin and Eli were holding Angel down, the gun away from everyone.
"Runaway!" Anthony shouted at me.
I didn't comprehend it, I was still in shock as if to what just happened.
"Go! Run! What are you waiting for!?" Anthony screamed.
I tried to move, but my legs wouldn't move.
The next thing I knew Eli got up, grabbed my hand and took off running, pulling me behind with him. He put me in his car and got in, speeding off.
"What the hell was that about!?" Eli said a little aggressively.
"What part do you mean?" I asked.
"About you killing Angels girl and Danny?!" He said almost at a yell.
I sighed, and told him what had happened.
"I was in coma... I was supposed to die, I did, 3 times... But God, I wish I was the one that died instead of them." I said looking out my window, eyes closed.
"How'd the crash happen?" Eli asked.
"I was driving, and the brake locked, we don't even know how, but it happened. The good part was, is there was a light, and it was green, so I didn't know the brake locked up. We would've been fine, if it wasn't for some idiot who ran a red light... He crashed into us. I saw him coming and tried to avoid it by turning the wheel and breaking, that was when I knew it was locked. I reached for the emergency brake, but it was too late... When he hit us, my car flipped, and rolled into a telephone pole... He hit my side, Danny was behind me, and the pole... It hit the passengers side... That's what killed Zoey... Danny, he died when the car was rolling... " I said tightening my eyes to try to stop the tears that were threatening to fall.
"Oh um... Wow. That uh... Wow." Eli said. He looked at me, "I'm sorry about that." Eli said, his voice filled with sadness.
"It's okay..." I said, still with my eyes closed.
"So you knew Danny too? How'd you know that goofball?" Eli asked clearing his throat.
I looked at Eli, "Wait, did you know Danny too?" I asked.
"Yeah, we were close. He was the closest thing to family I ever had. For a while, he put me on the right path. It ended when he died." Eli said, as his car came to a stop. His hands tightened their grip on the wheel. I looked at his profile, and his eyes were glazed over like newly formed glass.
"I'm sorry..." I said, filled with regret.
"It's cool, it isn't your fault." Eli said, still staring at the road.
"Zoey introduced Danny and I. We started off as friends and that's how we thought it was gonna be, but Zoey had something else in mind for us. Before I started going out with Colby, she tried to set us up. It was actually working out with him. I mean, we weren't official, but we talked about being official. He was my best friend, and almost boyfriend." I said.
"Ah, so you were the 'most amazing, beautiful, funny and down to earth girl,' Danny always talked about." Eli looked at me, "He clearly wasn't right in the head for thinking that."
Eli looked back at the road.
Eli started driving.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"My secret hiding spot." Eli said, "Angel won't find us there."
"Stop." I said.
Eli looked at me, one eyebrow was up, "What?"
I looked back at him, "I said stop."
Eli pulled over.
"Look I know you don't want to watch me, so I'll just go on my own, that way you won't have to worry about watching me." I said unbuckling my seatbelt and opening the car door to get out.
Eli reached over and shut it, "You aren't going anywhere Brooklyn. Plus you don't have your mutt. Just stay until you get her. That way Angel will calm down a little bit and then it won't be so bad if he finds you then, then if he finds you now. After you get your mutt, you can go."
I didn't say anything I just slowly nodded and put my seatbelt back on, as he started driving again.
I wonder if what Eli just did was because he had to do it since it was his job, or if he wanted to do it.
