My flats gave in; my feet were failing me. I took off the flats and threw them into my purse. Why was Alexis so ashamed? Why did she overreact to such a small issue? And for the most important part -- Why didn't she TELL me?

"Alexis!" I panted as I ran after her through a busy high way. Where was she going? Home?

Even she'd knew it would take an hour to get back to her house from here. We were downtown!

She continued to run down the sidewalk, with cars zooming beside us. I was a yard away, I couldn't possibly catch up to her now. I started to slow. My feet began to fail . . . and my breathing got even heavier.

Soon enough, I came to a complete stop, drooping over the railing on the right of me. I clenched the bars as I caught as much air into my lungs as possible. Once I'd gotten enough air, I looked out into the distance. There, I seen Alexis. Walking. Back to me. . . Back to me!

"Alexis!" I yelled as hard as my lungs could take it. I started to wheeze and cough. Alexis started toward me again.

What made her come back?

She started to run back toward me. I didn't have enough time. I widened my purse opening and dug into the huge brown bag. There, my fingers touched my inhaler. I took it out and took two puffs accordingly. My eye's even let loose.

Alexis soon came running back to me, and held my back for support. She took her other hand rapidly and placed it on my chest. I barely could speak anymore, my lungs were frail and weak. I leaned over the rails to rest my body on something, anything, that could calm my exhausted body.

"Oh my Gosh, Brianna I'm so sorry, I didn't know what was suppose -- I'm sorry!"  She screamed aloud.

I didn't have enough energy to respond. I shook my head and held up my index. My coughs filled my chest, followed by aching pain. I wasn't instructed to use the inhaler more than twice, but what the hell. I was practically choking here. I waved my inhaler in my face then took another whiff. Alexis patted and rubbed my back for support.

"Brianna, wink if your upset, please,"

I didn't wink.

"Well, now wink if your not upset. . .?"

I winked my left eye. Alexis let out a breath of relief and held me close. "Come on." She held my hand.

I finally had enough rest to speak, and the first words arose from my mouth, "Why. . . did you run?"

"I felt deeply. . . embarrassed." She confessed with no hesitation.

"But . . . I'm. . . your friend," I wheezed out.

"I know... And that's where I went wrong."

I nodded in agreement.

"Where. . . we going. . .?" I managed to speak after about 10 long seconds.

"We're just a few blocks away from U.S.P.N Hospital. Sharon and Logan are staying there." Alexis shrugged. "We can finish the shopping tomorrow, if you want."

Tomorrow was the DAY before prom! Gees! How late did she want to be?

But I was out of breath from chasing her ass around town, so what the hell. For my health and well being, I nodded. By the way, seeing Sharon in her condition should make me feel better about mine.

"May I help you?" The sweet young woman spoke to us as we approached the small desk of the hospital.
