Chapter 14

I stared at him dumbstruck at his sudden question. He moved his hand forward waiting for me to accept this strange proposal. He looked down at me as if I was a little heap of chocolate!

"Why are you nervous?" He asked. Why can't he be wrong for one f***ing time!
"No..I'm not!" I confirmed
shyly and put my hand in his.

He delicately placed my hand on his shoulder and his hand on my waist. The touch was something different from the usual. I moved closer to him and put the other hand on his chest.
"Music?" I asked.
"Let's sing!" He smiled and we started singing..

What day is it? And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive.
I can't keep up and I can't back down.
I've been losing so much time.

There was something else in the air other than the 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and rest. What was it? I could feel it but I can't point my finger to it!

"I'm done!" He sat down.
"Already?" I sat down beside him and rested my head on his shoulder.
"Look who's done!" He grinned. I slept as the cool countryside breeze hit me after every few seconds. He carefully lifted my head and placed it in his lap. He brushed my hair back and lied back onto the rock.
I woke up first and it was all pitch dark, I woke Steve up who sat up startled. Maybe he had a bad dream I thought! We checked our phones and realised that it was an hour past midnight. Brandon called some twenty times on each of our phones and I was pretty sure that he must have been roaming all around the roads searching for both of our dead bodies!

"How did you sleep so well? How come I didn't wake up for that ridiculous ringtone of yours?" He commented dusting his pants.
"You make me feel safe" I said before I realised that I shouldn't have. It's true but you know what they say 'a woman's heart is an ocean of secrets'... So I can't let my secrets out. Not just because they say so but that line helps me yapping out all my forbidden secrets.

"I have an amazing ringtone! Okay?" I tried and jumped off the rock.
We walked towards the car, he never left my hand all the way till the car. He never fails to make me feel special like someone else..you know who??. He opened the door for me and ran to the other side hurriedly.
He opened his mouth to say something when Sky called. Let me something cleared here, I wasn't staring at his lips I was just looking at his side of the road.
I being 'the world's clumsiest person' threw the phone down and the speaker got activated. Why is my life such a drama? Really? One day without drama, it means I'm dead!!

"Star! Where are you? Get back here right now? Are you safe? Doesn't he have any responsibility to inform one of us? Where are both of you?What are doing with him anyway? What is he-" I cut the call before it could get any worse. Yeah! Yeah! It took a long time. Remember, I'm Blaze! One can't expect much from me!

"I'm sorry!" Steve said and my stomach clenched. It wasn't his mistake. We just fell asleep.
"I knew I couldn't carry any responsibility..I just thought.." Steve tried. What the heck is he linking this little thing to? To Beth really?
"Steve please-" he cut me by continuously honking. Why am I such a dumbass?
He didn't speak a word till we reached the house. Brandon and Sky were waiting near the gate. Steve parked the car and moved swiftly towards Brandon and said "I'm sorry!".
He went into the house without even looking at me. Just a few hours back, both of us were so happy and now he is breaking..because of me!
"You okay?" Brandon asked.
"Where were you? Sky enquired.
"Really Sky? Is that all you want? Obviously, why would you care whether I'm okay or not? Right?" I yelled.
"I'm fine Brandon!" I said and ran in.
I knocked on Steve's door and went in after noticing it was open. He was sitting at the corner of the bed, with his head between his knees. He was squeezing the bedsheets with his hands.
"Steve?" I whispered.
"I'm really sorry! Sky was right! I would have killed you too with my irresponsibility!" His eyes were bloodshot, his was all sweating.
"It's not your fault Steve..neither now nor then!! We just fell asleep!" I tried.
"Please leave me alone!" He said and I stood up to give him his space.
"Steve! I need you! Please don't leave me alone in this mess!" I said closing the door.
