A few days had passed since we arrived and met my brother. I've only just gotten used to calling him that. Minho was off with the bigger guys practising their shooting. Brenda and Thomas were always together as usual, I thought me and Newt would be like that too but he was with Georgia every chance he got. Give him his due though, he has pushed her away everytime she got a bit too close to him which I found comforting. Jorge was getting along great with Atticus and they spent a lot of time together but Atticus always made time for me. He still couldn't believe everything that has happened to us (the gladers) he was shocked. But he did have a very extensive library considering his circumstances. So that's where I spent most of my time.
I sat in my chair with a battered science book. It was the first time in 6 years that I felt alone. I know there were lots of people around me and they were all nice but I didn't feel like part of a family anymore. Atticus walked in "I thought I'd find you here" his deep soft still gave me shivers. "I'm always here Atticus" I laughed back at him. He perched on the arm of my chair and put his arm around me. I didn't flinch. "What's the matter Y/N?" I leaned into him and he gasped "if it's Georgia you're worried about?" He began but before he could continue I wrapped my arms around him and pressed my face into his chest. He smelled so familiar and yet so strange at the same time. He was muscular and when he put his arms around me I felt like I had someone. I hugged him like he was my brother, I hugged him like I had known him forever.
"May I suggest this book?" He said letting me go and handing me a busted up hardcover. "It's fiction. Immerse yourself in it. It's fantasy, one of my personal favourites" he smiled as Newt and Georgia walked in. "hi Y/N" Newt said and as soon as he said my name it sounded foreign. Georgia smiled spitefully at me and moved closer to him, but newt didn't push her away this time. "I was-" Newt began but I cut him off. "Forget it" I said and pushed past him.
- Newt's POV -
I went to run after her but Georgia grabbed my hand tightly. I pulled my hand away a quickly as I could. "What are you doing Newt?!" Atticus said storming over to me. "What?"
"Georgia...go away. Leave Newt alone from now on. You can be friends and whatever but if I ever see you touch Newt again in a more than friendly way there will be consequences do you understand?" He shouted at Georgia. Tears formed in her eyes and she stormed out. "But harsh Atticus don't you think?" I said dumbfounded by the way he just spoke to her. "No. When she first joined us she was trying to get in with me. I was kind of glad when you came along and she forgot about me. But any you see how much your hurting her?" He said to me sitting in her chair.
"But I haven't done anything to hurt Y/N-"
"That right there. When you came here you called her Greenie. Everyone still calls her Greenie from your group. But when you said hi to her you didn't call her Greenie. YOU are hurting her Newt. You need to get your act together" he said and stormed out of the tent, i assumed it was to find Y/N...uh I mean Greenie. I didn't mean to make her feel like that. I love her. I love her more than she knows. I have to make this right.
- reader POV -
I told against the wall and looked up to the sky when Georgia saunters around the corner. "So I know Newt loves you Y/N. But let me tell you something...that will change" she stood facing me, our bodies inches apart. She is going to get it in a minute. "You can't force Newt to love you Georgia." I said sourly even though she was taller than me, I knew I stronger. "He won't love you. You're fake and a horrible person." I said pushing her back. I saw her hand come up to slap me...amateur. I grabbed her arm in my hand and crushed the bones in her hand and wrist. She screamed and tears ran down her face. "I'm- I'm sorry- I'm sorry" she pleaded to me to let go. "Do not fuck with me Georgia. You will come out worse. Remember that" I whispered. I let go just as Minho and Atticus ran around the corner. I froze and was scared of what he'd do. "Look what she's done Atticus!" Georgia screamed and showed her bloodied hand. "I didn't see anything!" Atticus said, he turned and winked at me before ordering Minho to take her to the medical wing. I truly love my big brother.
