Chapter 4
The fluorescent light was blinding me. I tried to put my hands up to cover it, but I was too groggy and disoriented. I sat up slowly and looked around. I was in what looked to be a nurses office on a bed with blue sheets. I grabbed my head and tried to get up off the bed and towards whoever was in charge. I fainted. So what? Does that mean I was supposed to be in here all day? I had classes to go to, people to see, sports to join. I had no time to be resting in here with the rest of the medial tools.
"Nurse!" I cried out. "Nurse! Nurse!" An old, chubby woman came running in the room.
"What happened deary?" She had a British accent.
"When do I get to leave?" I asked bluntly.
"When I say so. You took a horrible fall and a nice young boy carried you in. He seemed very concerned." What boy? As if on cue, Edward Cullen rolled into the little office. His eyes were now black and concerned.
"Oh. That nice boy." I said.
"Hi. You just fell and I thought you might need help, so I took you to the nurse." His musical voice said. I glared at him.
"It's a good thing he did. I think you had a fever dear." She touched my forehead. "But you seem to be fine now, so I suppose you could leave."
"Great!" I jumped up off the table which was a big mistake because the room started to spin. I fell again, but I quickly picked myself back up and ran out the door.
I didn't trust that Edward Cullen. Whatever I saw in that weird flash made me think he was dangerous. And he could be the end to Bella. Whatever that meant. Maybe I was going crazy. I mean, weird visions and flashes, it can get any more crazy than that. I don't understand why this is even happening to me. I caught sight of Bella in her ugly orange truck. She was listening to music and reading a book. I opened the passenger door and turned off the music so she would notice I'm there.
"Are you alright?" She asked, with slight concern.
"I'm fine. I just fainted, that's all. Probably overworking myself."
"This is the second time you've fainted since we got here. Are you sure your ok? There's nothing going on?"
"What could possibly be going on?"
"I don't know. Lack of sleep, stress." She hesitated. "......drugs." I lost it.
"You actually think I'm dumb enough to take drugs?! I'm only 14! How crazy do you think I am!"
"Ok ok calm down. It was only a suggestion. I'm just concerned for you health. This doesn't regularly happen to you."
"I know, but I'm fine. I promise."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah." She took off and started towards the grocery store, then to home. My guess was, she was making dinner. We didn't talk much during the whole ride and I was left to ponder through my own thoughts.
There was something weird about this Cullen kid. Pale complexion, cold skin, changing eye color. Gold to black? Is that even possible? I've seen pale people, but none that pale. This kid needed some sun. I've never felt someone so cold. And I've never seen anyone with golden eyes. And from what I've heard, his family is all the same, but not. They all look nothing alike, yet, they all have the same pale skin and golden eyes. Could something else be going on? Something I'm missing? I'll have to find out. I didn't know what it was about this kid. He was making me question everything and everyone.
We pulled into the driveway and I hopped out the car. I could always ask Charlie. He was the Chief of Police after all and he probably knew everything about everyone in Forks, it was only a matter of asking. He was at the dining room table, sipping some coffee. I rolled up right next to him and took a seat. So did Bella.
