Chapter 5

I didn't know what to think. Everything seemed to be spinning, and quickly. I don't know what happened after I saw my own eyes. I didn't remember when I fainted again. I didn't remember when Carlisle examined me. I didn't remember when Bella and Charlie pushed me into the car, and carried me to the bed. And I didn't remember falling asleep there. All I saw in my eyes was an ever going ocean of blue, with a golden sunset at the end. That's how I somehow ended up in bed again, with my eyes back to normal. Something was happening to me, and I didn't know what, but I'd soon find out.

Charlie wouldn't let me go back to school. He had been having meetings with Carlisle for the past 2 weeks. They decided it would be best if I stayed in a area where they could both watch me. I felt as though Carlisle knew more than he was letting on, which he probably did. So, Charlie and Carlisle came to an agreement on how to manage my situation.

I would still go to school, except for a twist: I'd have to stay with the Cullens.

I know.

Do you have any idea what people at school are gonna say? Asking questions like: Have you seen Edward Cullen in a towel? Do you share secrets with Rosalie?

No, I do none of those things and the fact that your asking me that just proves your an idiot. My respect for you has seriously dropped to the floor. Dumb humans. If you wanna know those things, ask them, don't ask me, because I really don't care. I don't mean to sound aggravated, but I am. I find this whole idea bonkers. And to think this whole idea came from a guy with a PhD.

But I'm moving too fast for you.

"What?!" I asked Charlie in disbelief as he told me. "That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard. What exactly is that gonna solve?"

"It's gonna keep you under the monitor of a 'professional doctor' and me. It's a win-win situation."

"But Charlie, I can just stay here. I don't need anyone diagnosing my problems, I have Web MD."

"Ella, Web MD is an app. It'll probably tell you your dying of some horrific disease."

"But it could be right." He sighed.

"Ella, calm down. Your only gonna be there until we figure out your... condition."

"Condition? I'm not dying Charlie. Don't treat me like some sort of sick patient."

"I'm sorry." He grabbed my shoulders. "But this is what had to be done."

"Charlie, I'm not-"

"Is everyone ready to go?" Carlisle yelled from outside. He was wearing a navy blue sweater and comfortable slacks. He seemed to be the only one at ease here. He suggested the whole idea in the first place. I was very suspicious to know why.

"Yeah. We're ready." I said, not even concealing my sigh.

We were gonna follow Carlisle's black car all the way to their casa. I was driving next to my dad in his police car behind them. We didn't talk, apparently we were done with that. Bella stayed home. She didn't seem to care much that I was leaving, but whatever, I'd still see her at school I guess.

The ride there was full of twisting and forks in the road. The houses that we passed just disappeared at some point and all there were, was forest. That endless green monster that could swallow me whole. I looked at Charlie. He didn't make any eye contact. He didn't know it would be like this either.

Carlisle finally pulled into a driveway, and then into a garage. It was a large box shaped house. You could are everything in it because it was entirely made of glass. Just from the outside, you could tell it had a large living room, several floors, and several rooms to fill each. It seemed too big, even for the Cullen family.

Charlie and I stared in wonderment at this house at the edge of the world. As we pulled into the garage, we saw a whole bunch of expensive-looking cars. Of course I didn't know their names because I'm not a cars person, but Charlie certainly did. This family must be rolling in money. Lucky them.

We stepped out of our police car, feeling a little out of place. We followed Carlisle into the house, which was just as lavished on the inside then on the out. White furniture covered the the living room and what I could see of the kitchen. Didn't they ever worry about spilling something?

"Wow." Charlie whispered. Wow indeed.

"I hope you like it. I know it's not anything like your home, but it's all we've got." Carlisle said.

"It'll suffice." I say, looking around at my expensive new house.

"Rosalie will show you to your the guest bedroom. It's where you'll be staying while your here." A tall, blonde girl came in the room with piercing golden eyes. She didn't look friendly, but she was gorgeous.

She picked up my bags like they weighed nothing and began walking upstairs. "Follow me." She said in her high, soprano voice.

I followed the beautiful woman up 2 flights of stairs. On the last flight up, there was a glass case filled to what sees like graduation caps.

"Why do you guys have so many graduation caps?" I asked Rosalie.

"Hasn't anyone ever told you it's rude to ask questions?" She rebutted.

"Only when the answers are a secret." She continued to the room at the end of the hall.

"This is your room for your stay." I looked inside and saw a white bed with a headboard made from mahogany, a Mac desktop, a flat screen TV, a white dresser, and a stack of movies up to the ceiling. The walls were pink, ironically my favorite color.

"Wow." I whispered.

"I hope you enjoy it." Enjoy it? I was gonna love it. It's like the room was designed so I could never get bored. Or never get nosy.

"Thank you. I will." She walked out the room. The door was glass, but it had shades on it that I could pull up and down. And I pulled it down.

I started unpacking my clothes into the dresser. Something was right about the Cullens. First, a glass case full of graduation caps? That's a little suspicious. Where would you possibly get all of those and why keep them? Second, I noticed there were no beds in the rooms that I passed on the way to mine. Do they not sleep? Third, everything is white. And none of it as ruined. I personally know as a human being that I often trip or accidentally get a crumb on the carpet or spill something, but everything seems spotless. Not even a little dust.

I pulled out a composition and wrote this down:

The Cullens

-Graduation caps

-No beds

-Spotless house

Someone knocked on my door. I hid the notebook in my draw and answered. It was a smiling, petite girl with spiky black hair. I assumed this was Alice.

"Dinners downstairs on the table. Enjoy."

"Aren't you coming with me?"

"No, I already ate." Before I asked anything else, she skipped down the hall to her room. I rolled my eyes and walked down the stairs. I paused not nearly halfway down because something was wrong.

The glass case. With the graduation caps.

It was gone.
