Chapter 11

I was swimming back to conciousness. I guess my brain was working out how all this could be. Edward Cullen was a vampire, that was the missing piece to the puzzle. And Bella knew. He must have threatened her. Probably told her to keep quiet or he'd drink all her blood or something, either way she must have been scared out of her mind. I was, for her.

I started to notice my surroundings. I was in a white room. I heard voices coming from outside the curtain.

"Carlisle, I'm telling you. She knows."

"She's just a girl, Edward. She thinks she knows, but she doesn't."

"No, I heard her Carlisle. She said vampires before she passed out. She knows what we are."

"Calm down Edward, she might not even know anything."

"I didn't tell her anything, I swear." The voice was feminine this time.

"I believe you Bella. Really, I do. I just have this feeling about your sister, I don't know what it is, but I have it."

"I don't know. Ever since we got here, she's been passing out and saying crazy things. I think there's something seriously wrong with her."

I flinched at that. She was talking about me like we haven't been sisters all our lives. She's taking Edward's side over mine, she's choosing a vampire over her younger sister.

They stopped talking all of a sudden. I froze.

Carlisle walked into the room. "Ella? Are you awake?"

I closed my eyes again. I didn't want him to know that I had been listening, but somehow I had a feeling that he knew. "Yes?"

"How are you feeling? You took quite a fall. Are you ok?" He was studying me, I realized. His golden eyes traced the lines on my face, the blue color of my eyes, and the awkwardness of my posture.

"Do you even have to ask me? You probably already know."

"That's not what I meant Ella. I mean are you, mentally, ok?" He asked, hesitantly. He didn't want to get me too worked up, I suppose. Probably worried I would say something, but I wouldn't. It's not like anyone would believe me anyway. I'm not gonna tell anyone that I think my sister's boyfriend is a vampire, and so is the rest of his family. I've fainted at least 3 times at school, they think I'm crazy enough.

"I'm fine. I think I'm just under a little stress. New school and everything." I said, trying to play it off as much as I could.

He looked unconvinced. "I'm sure it is."

Bella came in the room, through the curtain next. She looked down at me with pity and concern, with a little bit of worry underlying it. Worried for whom, I may never know.

"Hey El." She said, walking over to the side of my bed.

"Hi." I said flatly. The only person I was interested in talking to was Sasha and she was probably still in school.

"How are you? How are you feeling?"

"I've never been better."

"Are you sure? You seemed a little out of it at school."

"I'm fine." I said, gritting my teeth. "Can I go home now?"

Carlisle and Bella exchanged a look. Bella put her hand on my leg. "Ella, were worried about you."

"I know. I heard."

"Ella, that's not the point. Charlie thinks it's better if he sends you back home."
