Chapter 8
It was 5:00 in the morning when Seth Clearwater finally called me. It's not like I was asleep. I couldn't sleep! Whoever left that note and the dress came into my room, and put it there. If they came again, I wanted to be ready. I had a bat waiting under my bed for when the little creep came back. Even if the dress was cute.
"Hello?" I answered, completely on alert. I drank several cups of caffeine.
"Hey. You ok?" He asked.
"Just a little jittery. Why are you awake so late?"
"Why are you?"
"Because-its a long story ok. I'll explain another day."
"Good enough. I have some new intel."
"New intel?"
"Yeah, on my father and Sam. Remember.."
"Yeah, yeah I remember."
"Good, well, would you mind coming by my place later on? I'll give you the address."
"Yeah, sure. I'll be there early. I can't sleep anyway."
"Is something wrong?"
I sighed. "Its-it's just really weird. I'll explain everything when I see you."
"Ok." He still sounded worried when I hung up the phone.
I took a shower about an hour later and then got dressed. I expected that the Cullen's would still be sleeping, so I tippy toes downstairs and slipped out the house. Seth's house was on the Quileute Reservation and I had no way of getting there. Walking would be too much so I did something, I'd never thought I'd do: I called Bella.
She was there a half an hour later on her truck.
"May I ask why your going to the Quileute Reservation at 6:30 in the morning?"
"Because I'm gonna go meet a friend. That's all."
"Does Charlie know?"
"Does Charlie have to know everything?" She frowned.
"Ella, should I be worried?" She asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
"No. And it's really none of your business anyway."
"Your my sister. Your business is my business."
"That's what you think." I didn't see why she was pushing it. If I were in her position, I would have kept quiet.
"Ella, why are you really going?" She asked.
"I'm going to see a friend." I sighed.
"What friend?"
"Seth." Her eyes widened, like it all seemed to make sense. She couldn't know that I was helping him with his dad.
"What?"
She smirked. "Nothing."
"Bella.."
"Is this Seth a good friend..."
"I guess." Honestly, I barely knew him, but he seemed like a cool dude.
"Do you like this Seth..?"
"What? No. He's just a friend I'm helping out."
"Ok ok. No need to be all defensive."
I sighed. We arrived at the address Seth gave me a few minutes later. I jumped out the car too fast and nearly fell to the ground. I made Bella leave as soon as we got there. I don't want her to know what I was up to.
Seth house was far from a house. It was small and rusty. It looked like it rolled on wheels. It was painted this grayish color which made it look all dull and colorless.
Seth opened the door when Bella left.
"Who was that?" He asked.
"My sister." I said.
"And you didn't tell her about.."
"No, no. Of course not. Your secrets safe with me."
"Oh good." He smiled. We just sat there staring at each other for a few minutes before he said," Oh! Come in! I'm sorry."
"It's alright." I walked into his house and the inside was much nicer than the outside. The walls on the inside were white and there was even a small chandelier in the kitchen. "This is a nice house."
"Thanks, but you should really be thanking my mom. She's the one who decorated."
I followed him up the stairs to his bedroom. It was a bit odd, but I decided not to question his decisions. His room was a little messy and he moved some books out of the way for me to sit. I looked at one of them.
"The Perks of Being a Wallflower." I said.
He looked startled. "Yeah. I thought it would help me overcome my shyness." He said. It was obvious he had never told anyone that.
"You don't seem all that shy to me."
"That's because your not." I had never really thought about it that way. I guess I wasn't shy.
"I guess so. I never really thought about it that way."
"Yeah. A lot of people don't."
"So you had some new intel on your father and Sam.." I said, desperate to change the subject.
"Yeah, yeah. I've been looking through some of my dads books and I think I found something."
I walked over to his desk where some old dusty books lay. "What are they?"
"Their old books full of legends and things about my people. Check it out."
I looked at some of them. He was right. They were about his people.
"This one had like 12 book marks in it. I think this is his most important one."
"What's in it?"
"It's the oldest story in the book. The Quileutes were said to have been descendants of wolves."
Wolves.
"Wait. What do you mean descendants of wolves?"
"Well, it's said that the Quileutes were once wolfs that became human from some supernatural transmuter. It's just nonsense that our parents tell us to make us feel special." He actually laughed.
"But what if it's not?" He looked at me like I was crazy.
"Ella, werewolves don't exist. Their made up."
"But then why would your father be readings about it? Think about it Seth."
"Ella that's ridiculous."
But it wasn't. The dreams, the Cullens, the wolves.. It all made a little more sense. Werewolves.
Werewolves exist. Wow.
I felt like I was just thrown back, my perspective on everything has changed. Sam Uley was a werewolf and that's why they were talking about it.
"Sam's a werewolf!" I screamed, jumping up and down and jumped in Seth's arms.
"Ella, I'm seriously thinking about having you committed." He said, but didn't let go of my body.
I chuckled. "No, Seth, seriously. How can you believe a guy who told you that I'd show up randomly on a beach, but not that werewolves exist."
"Someone telling you something in advance isn't the same things as supernatural creatures."
His strong arms let me go. He didn't understand. I don't think he ever would.
"I should go." I said. He looked uphappy for a second, and then shook his head.
"Yeah, of course."
"Sorry. Just call me if you need me again."
"Yeah sure."
I decided to walk home. I could make it must faster that way. And I needed to think.
Werewolves. I was gonna need some help.
But I just walked out on it.
