Two days ago Batman invited us to one of his posh banquets and told us we had to wear something formal. Problem is, the only dress I've ever owned was one from when I was 5. My mom would never buy me an expensive dress for some stupid banquet. Literally there was only 7 REAL pairs of clothes that actually fit me. I hate to admit it but, the truth is I'm poor. I'm just surprised I have a phone. Speaking of which... I grab it from my dresser and look up M'egan's number. I press the call button and wait. After a couple rings she finally answers.
"Hey Artemis!" she says excitedly. "Heyyyyyyy M'egan." I smile. "Aren't you excited for tonight?" she squeals. "That's what I was going to talk about. I don't exactly have." I pause to look to my closet. "Formal attire." I say slowly. "OOOOOO! I CAN HELP!" she yells over the phone making my flinch. "Uh, sounds great... I guess." I say looking out the window at the sunset. "See you soon!" she says in a cheery voice. "Yeah. Soon." I mutter and end the call. What else am I suppose to do, go in jeans!?
I walked into the gym as the zeta tubes pronounced my name and number. "ARTEMIS B07." There was literally no one in the gym as I walked in. "Quiet, a bit too quiet." I mutter to myself. I walk up to M'egan's room and knock on the door. It was silent until M'egan opened the door and grabbed me inside. "Artemis!" she squeals after shutting the door. "Yeah?" I ask sitting on her bed. "OMG! Can I do your makeup! Or your hair!?" she smiles. I rember along time ago, Jade would lay on her bed and read a book while I braided her hair. Like we were actual sisters. You know, ones that don't ACTAULLY try and kill each other. I snap out of my thought and smile. "Sure. You might be better than it then me, and I've been on earth for 16 years." She laughs as she walks to her closet opening it. "I've been trying to find a dress for you, but it either doesn't fit, or not your style." she explains as she throws clothes across the room one by one. "M'egan, what if you just show me one and..." all of the sudden a black cloth covers my face. I can hear M'egan giggle. "Sorry." she laughs. I take off the piece of clothing and study it. It had a glittery top and then just a black frilly bottom. I found it very appealing. "You like it don't you?" M'egan ask me. I look up at her. "Ya think its too, ya know. Funeral?" I say a bit worried. She shakes her head. "It's quite bold infact. Glitter? Black? What happened to green?" she smirks. I feel the expensive fabric. I just shrug. "Try new things right?" I smile at the dress. "Sure. Try new things." she smiles. I go to my room across the hall and try on the dress, and let my hair down. I thought about Wally. What he was doing. What he was wearing. If he was going to tell me I looked pretty tonight. If he was ever going to ask me out. But what I thought about the most was what he said a couple days ago. How Wally said no one looks up to him. How he doesn't get any respect. I rember when I was a little girl. I used to watch the news just to see if kid flash was on. Because I had a crush on him when I was his age. I really did. Thought he was cute. But there was just something about him that made me look up to him. And now I think I know what it is. It's because he didn't expect publicity for doing good. Although he did do that smile cheesy on the camera, that would soon turn into the grin that girl falls for. Anyway, he just did it. Without a thank you, or a please. He did it because he liked helping people. And you could tell he did. Always smiling with his stupid dimples. So technically last year wasn't REALY the first time I ever saw wally. It was when I was very young. But even then I liked him. I guess I learned what the definition of quality boyfriend material was at a young age. I looked in the mirror at the slim fitting dress. "Try new things." I shrug. I walked back into Megan's room. She looked at me up and down with a gasp. "BLACK LOOKS, GREAT ON YOU!" she squeals hugging me. I roll my eyes but I hug her back. "Thanks." I smile. She stops hugging me and looks to my hair. "What? Does it look bad down?" I say worried. She shaked her head. "What if I curled it?" she asks. I shrug. "I don't know, I just usually put in a pony tail. Your the fashion police." I tell her. She claps. "I'll do it." After 10 minuets M'egan curls the bottom half of my hair successfully without burning me. "I like it. Do you?" she asks my reflection. "Looks good to me." I shrug. "Artemis, you don't have to be nice. Do you like it?" I nod my head in repliance. "I just look... so different." "Good different or bad different?" she asks. I smile at my reflection. "Trust me, it's a good different. I look like I'm a model." I smile. "Artemis you always look like a model." M'egan assures me. "It's not good to lie." "I'm not. Plus, I'm not the only one who notices." she says passing a look at me. I smirk. "Who else notices?" I say getting giddy just waiting for the name. "Wally obviously can't stop looking at you." she smiles. Did you hear that? ...Its the sound of my heart exploding. "He obviously can't stop looking at YOU!" I laugh. She sets the curling iron down. "You don't know do you?" she says giving me a serious glance. "What?" I ask her curiously. "He hits on me to get you jealous." she smirks a sly grin. I cross my arms and blush. "Lies." "Martian oath." she says putting her hand on her heart. "Plus I know you like him." she grins again. I start cracking up but can't help to say no or yes. I stay quite and look at myself in the mirror. Not good to lie. Not good to lie. I tie my bangs back, in a half up have down style. But with my bangs straight back. Megan pulls out pairs of shoes considering we were the same size. She pulls out green ankle boots. "DIBS!" I yell. She laughs and hand me the shoes as I slip them on. "Knew you still like green." she smirks.
