"How long is this walk going to take??" Terezi complained, she dragged her feet along.
"Jegus, just wait. We're almost there." Karkat answered, pulling Terezi's hand forward to somehow quicken the pace. They were heading to the community centre, the heat from summer weighing them down. Step after step, a sign emerged.
"We're here. Happy?" Karkat said in his usual annoyed tone.
"Yes Karkles. Very much" She answered, sticking her tongue out and grinning. You could say that she was excited to get a job, but also woozy since she wasn't the best with children. They walked into the colourful place, met with a secretary.
"Hi. I'm Terezi Pyrope. I'm here to work." Terezi said to the secretary, her voice was edgy and high-pitched. Almost like one of those grumpy ladies you'd find at the dentist.
"You're the one Aradia has been talking about. Okay then. Room 106, that's her room" The woman explained, Terezi nodded and Karkat took a hold of her arm, leading her to the room where Aradia was said to be. They walked in and saw Aradia in a dress, standing at the front of the room and reading a story to a couple of children.
"There you guys are!" Aradia exclaimed, pulling her attention to the two figures, so did the rest of the kids, whipping their heads to stare at the newcomers.
"What took you guys so long?" She happily said. Terezi opened her mouth as to say something, but Karkat flicked her forehead, she then responded to playfully elbowing him. The question was left unanswered. Aradia giggled.
"You won't get to the reading part today, but how about you introduce yourselves!"
Terezi and Karkat walked up to the front of the room as all eyes were on them. Terezi awkwardly waved a hand.

"Hello Uhm...kids! My name is Terezi. Pronounced Teh-reh-zee." She announced as several kids attempted to say her name. "This is..." She felt the room to her left for a human being, but Karkat extended his hand to reach hers. He was to her right.
"This is Karkat. He's my friend. Call him Kark-" She tried to continue but Karkat nudged her side. She laughed slightly. "He's kind of grumpy today" Some kids laughed.
"Okay okay. That's enough. We can go to the back of the class now right?" Karkat argued, looking at Aradia, who shook her head. He groaned. A small and dainty hand shot up from the crowd. Karkat pointed at the little girl in pigtails who had a question. Karkat nudged Terezi. "Some kid has a question for you" She nodded. The little girl smiled widely, her eyes flashing as she stared in curiosity. "Are you blind?" Alarmed, Aradia moved up to confront the girl, bickering about how that was a very subtle question. She mouthed a sorry to Karkat. "Oh yeah, I am" Terezi interrupted, Karkat telling Aradia it was fine.

"I got in an accident when I was young." She shrugged and the little girl nodded.
"Is uhm, is that all the questions?" Aradia exclaimed, some kids nodded, so she took it as a yes. "Well your parents are at the door anyway! Okay kids time to go!" She cheerfully beamed and high fives each kid that went out the door. A child not to small went up to Karkat and grabbed onto his sweater. "Hey!" Karkat turned around. He faced the little child and attempted to shoo him off, but the child didn't budge. The child just smiled a toothy grin then ran off, leaving Karkat confused. He muttered something about children and turned to Terezi. "You okay?" He asked flatly. "Yeah" She laughed.
Aradia rushed up to them. "Sorry about that! Kids are just like that. Sudden and all." She continued to bicker and Terezi flashed a grin. "It's fine Aradia. Really." Aradia sighed of relief. She waved to the last kid out the door. They all took a seat at her desk.

"Did you guys hear?" Aradia started "There's this gang that attacks the people on the streets. I think you guys should come by Sollux's place and stay there for awhile." Karkat looked up thoughtfully but shook his head. "We're fine, we'll keep an eye out for them" He said, Terezi nodded along. "Yeah! Nothing can get between me and Karkles!" She motioned a karate chop in the air and Aradia smiled. "I guess I must've underestimated you two. Just be careful."

Karkat and Terezi walked down to their alley that day tired. After going to the community centre, they visited a coffee shop with Aradia. She was probably at Sollux's place by now. They reached a familiar alleyway and sat against the wall. Terezi yawning. Another day went by as the cars honked and the sun went down.

~~~~~~~
Terezi yawned, realizing she was on the floor of the alleyway. She didn't quite get how she got on the floor, since Karkat was always there as a pillow. Sunlight poured on her face, the warmth giving her a weird feeling. She attempted to stretch her arms, but something was holding her down. Scratch that. Someone. Her eyebrows furrowed as she squirmed a bit. "Kark-mmph!?!"
W|N I'm back. Ha.
