Flowers

That night it was silent.

Terezi and Karkat shared a bed, making sure to stay in their designated sides, but let's face it they woke up that morning sprawled all over. No one said a word that night either. Or rather, they didn't need too. The problem dissolved once they reached the bed to sleep and be pulled into a different kind of world. Perhaps they didn't need words to know that they were sorry and they just were teens expecting too much for a teen. That night was merely a bad dream for the both of them, they woke up as if it didn't matter.

Which was better. It worked like that. They spoke from their hearts, even if their hearts couldn't speak.

Karkat had woken up first to find a literal foot in his face and a snoring Terezi spread across the bed. He stared at her dormant face for a while.

The thought of Terezi interested him. Sure they were good friends, even though they argued and were at each other's necks sometimes. He didn't hate her. God, he had butterflies whenever she and him would share the slightest touch. But then again he couldn't necessarily hate that feeling, he watched enough rom-coms to know what was up. Karkat Vantas was in love with Terezi Pyrope. Of all people.
To be honest, he didn't want to tell her. It's bad enough that they're trying to survive living alone, but to throw a deeper relationship in the mess would be a pain. Besides, it's not like she'd be interested in street garbage like him. He was friendzoned from the start. The least he could do as of now was be a good friend. The Vantas got out of bed to get some breakfast, making sure to spread the blanket on Terezi nice and snug.

It was a nice idea to go out and take a walk by himself for once. That made him think more about what the hell he was trying to achieve in life and take a better look at stuff. It was almost as if Terezi was taking away his eyesight, making him keep an eye on her all the time made him not notice other stuff like the flower shop that just opened recently around the corner. In the end Karkat bought cheap sandwiches from a gas station and bought a couple flowers from the shop for Terezi. There were all kinds of pretty flowers, but he only bought five. Originally he was supposed to just buy two but the pretty pixie-cut haired lady let him get three more for free. He got one red rose, a daisy, a tulip, a daffodil and a dandelion. The teen also made sure to make the colours vary, Terezi always liked a lot of colour.

Walking home with a plastic bag in one hand and a couple of flowers in the other just made him question even more of his life choices. Why did he just buy he flowers? What was he thinking? All he wanted to buy was some sandwiches but he suddenly ended up at a flower shop. What if Terezi takes it the wrong way? I mean he liked her but, she might think it's some kind of shitty confession or something. And then they're gonna have another argument cause she doesn't love him back and yada yada. Well shit.
He forced his feet a couple more yards down to the motel, putting the bag on his arm and holding the flowers in one hand so he could open the door with the other.
Karkat half expected Terezi to still be asleep on the bed. Instead she was on the floor in some kind of starfish mode just laying there. Now that she had her glasses, she currently had them on, but with her head on the floor the glasses poked up higher.
"Where have you been?" The girl asked, face still pointed upwards as if looking at the ceiling. Karkat set the plastic bag down and closed the door.
"The more important question is why you're on the floor." He sat crosslegged beside her with the flowers in his hand, forgetting it was there in the first place. The teen sprawled on the floor shrugged, before sniffing repeatedly. Karkat's vision turned to the flowers, then to the girl, then to the flowers. He turned red slightly, this was the part he didn't what to deal with.
"Whatcha got there? It smells good." Terezi sat up, pointing her nose in all directions. trying to find the certain smell.
"I Uhm...Well there was this flower shop around the corner and I was like why the fuck not so I got you flowers." He quickly explained, stiffly holding the flowers out to the now sitting up Terezi. She blinked for a while before moving her hands to find his arms, leading them to his hands and successfully to the flowers so she could get them.
"Well thanks then, they smell nice." She took another long sniff before blinking a couple times again and sticking her tongue out slowly. Karkat, who had been watching, quickly put his hands on her face, pushing her away from the colourful plants.
"Don't you dare lick the plants Pyrope." He muttered as Terezi grinned, tongue still stuck out.
"I have to know what kind they are." She replied between her grinned teeth, using her free hand to also push the Vantas aside.
"Then I'll tell you, you don't have to just-argh." Karkat muttered with his jaw clenched, Terezi swiftly moved his hand away from her head, because of this the pressure he was about to use made him spring forward, falling atop of the Pyrope. She chuckled as Karkat mumbled complaints about making him crush the flowers. Karkat got up surprisingly quickly, mostly because Terezi practically launched him into her chest and because they were extremely close to each other. Terezi didn't seem to mind, but Karkat sure as hell did. They ate the sandwiches on the floor in silence.

"Hey Karkles," Terezi said with a mouthful of sandwich, Karkat just made 'mhm' noise in response. His mouth was full too. Terezi opened her mouth to ask something, noticed her mouth was too full and closed her mouth to chew her food while putting a finger up as if silencing him to wait. After finishing she gulped, and opened her mouth to ask something, Karkat just watched her the whole time.
"Why'd you just decide to give me flowers?" She pondered, taking another bite of her sandwich as if the guy beside wasn't mentally freaking out over what to say. What was he to say anyway? Because I'm in love with you and that's what I'm supposed to do?? Wasn't there really a good outcome for this situation. I mean he just wanted to make her happy with the cliche idea of flowers, is that not hard to want? He would either end up confessing or end up saying something extremely cheesy. Option two seemed more safe though.
"I dunno, they were cheap. Consider it a sorry for messing you up yesterday, it's for you to cheer up or something." Karkat shrugged, explaining in the most casual voice he could muster without stuttering. Thankfully, Terezi seemed satisfied with his answer and left him alone. He sighed ever so quietly before continuing his cheap gas station sandwich.

With Sollux and Aradia at school, they decided to roam the streets together, using the money the Latula gave them for lunch and also small things that they wanted.
Before they left, Terezi emptied a soap bottle and filled it with water to put the flowers in, it was still a little crumpled up from being squished, but they were still in good shape. Karkat didn't know why she cared about it so much, but he was still glad she liked his little gift.

Back to them roaming, they walked down the sidewalk past many stores, many of them retail or restaurants.
"Psst, Karkles." Terezi muttered, poking the Vantas' arm that she held onto for guidance. Even though she had a cane, she still wanted to use Karkat as a guide. The teen looked over at that girl.
"What?" He asked slightly annoyed from being interrupted from his musing.
"I wanna buy a cape." She announced, grinning slightly. But Karkat just stared at her.

"What the actual fuck Terezi."
