she listened to music
and turned the brightness up
on her phone
it strained her eyes
but she had to
she couldn't fall asleep
she tried everything
to stay awake
conscious of her surroundings
but it began to grow hard
as her heartbeat
pounded in the veins
of her forehead
as sleep threatened
to take over her whole body
she felt like
she could barely
reach the surface
as sleep was stronger
than her self control.
no matter what she tried
she just couldn't make herself
feel alive
she felt like she was just between
consciousness
and unconsciousness
her head was so heavy
it felt like
a box was sitting in front
of her brain
in the way
weighing her head down
her eyes drooped
she was so exhausted
she didn't even realise when
her music stopped playing
and her eyes began to shut
and then after a minute
she'd realise what she was doing
and her eyes would shoot open
just to slowly shut again
subconsciously
where sleep enveloped her
and claimed another victim.
