The Legend of Mordecai: The Wolgon Prophecy (1)

Chapter 15: Inowa right?

      Mordecai wakes up to the sound of roaring wind. He looks up at the sky in horror from the sight of over one hundred vultures squawking. They seemed to be diving down into a strange part in the forest. He jumps as Dust runs and slides under his wing. "A-are you okay?" Mordecai asks Dust who was shaking like a leaf. Dust looks up at him and smiles, "Yeah I was just freaked out by the wind and those dead meat eaters." Dust crawls from underneath Mordecai's wing and sits up straight. He then scans the area and sighs "Whelp this stinks because I thought something cool would have happened by now...but no." Mordecai hesitates for a moment and an idea sparks in is mind. Maybe we can check the area out he thought with curiosity. The ferret glances at Mordecai and smirks, "I know what you're thinking" he said. Mordecai glances at the unsettling sky and races off with Dust into the strange area.
      The clearing was revealed to be a whacky looking orange brick house. The roof had an unusual curled up tip and blue stripes. There was also a strange presence in the air that Mordecai did not seem to pick up on. It seemed to be hidden from anyone's senses. Mordecai tenses as the door to the strange house opens up. Dust scrambles to his feet, hiding behind the hybrid. The open door was accompanied by a sinister light blue smoke that suddenly vanished. A wolf slowly steps out into the opening and stares blankly at the Moonlight wolf and ferret.

      "Who are you two?" They ask.

      Dust peeks out from behind Mordecai's leg and beams "Uh...hi there, we don't mean any harm" he answers shyly but quickly "But, by any chance are you Inowa? The female wolf smiles and walks down the stairs, to reveal her identity "Why yes, yes I am" she replies while staring directly at Mordecai with wonder. Inowa was a black and blue wolf with brightly colored ocean blue eyes more joyful then her brother's. Inowa hesitates for a moment and slowly circles Mordecai. What the...what on earth is she trying to do? Mordecai thought bewilderingly. "Well my goodness! I thought I would never see my stuff again!" She gasps in surprise. Next thing you know Mordecai's bag was yanked from his side. "Ow! What was that for?!" He cries in shock. Inowa gasps and quickly backs away.
Mordecai looks up and sees the surprised female wolf lower her head to apologize. "I-I'm so sorry about that...I don't k-know what I was thinking" She pauses and quietly whimpers "My condolences." Dust finally steps out from behind Mordecai and looks up at her with a goofy smile "Well, well, well I'm surprised you still lived here for that long." Inowa stares at Dust for a few seconds and rolls her eyes, "Oh, Dust, still sarcastic as ever I see" She says while grinning a bit. Mordecai cocks his head in confusion, "You two know each other?" Inowa nods in response, "Yes, for quite some time now, but one day he just...left." Dust snorts and rolls his eyes, "Look sistah, I did it for a reason, a good one at that!" "You left for what good reason, pipsqueak?" Inowa teases the ferret. Dust stares in surprise and hesitates for a moment. "I-I wanted to have an adventure of my own but, I felt like I was always pushed aside and told to stay. I felt like...everyone thought I was too small, weak, and stupid to do anything" he replies, sniffling a bit "I didn't want to ever leave you if that's what you think." Mordecai and Inowa stare at him in disbelief. The black and blue wolf nuzzles him, "Come. Let us talk more inside" she comforts him. Mordecai and Dust follow Inowa inside.
      When they go inside of the mage wolf's home, the Moonlight wolf stares at the walls of the house in amazement. The walls were a shade of dark blue and were decorated with shelves of bottled liquids, colorful books, and strange artifacts. Inowa stops and looks up at a black silver coated book sitting on top of one of the shelves. She blinks and the book disappears from the shelf and onto the floor. Wow I guess she is a magic user. He walks over to Dust who seemed to recover from his explanation. "Hey, buddy, are you okay?" Mordecai asks with a hint of sympathy. Dust looks up at him, nodding. "Yeah I'm fine I was just worried and a little scared" he replies. Inowa walks over to them with the book floating in midair. She then faces Mordecai and the book falls in front of him. Mordecai looks down at the book then back at her, "Wha-" He pauses and looks at the book again "What is this?" He asks confusingly. "Open it" She commands while placing her paw on the book and pushing it towards him.
      Mordecai places his paw under the book's front and opens the book to see a surprising title. It read 'Moonlight Chronicles' in bold black letters. "Is this a map of the...Moonlight Kingdom?!" He asks surprisingly. Inowa smiles and turns the page of the book. The next page had a series of Moonlight wolves shown on it. "That's the king!" Mordecai says with excitement as he looks at the proud standing image of the Moonlight King. Dust quickly runs underneath Mordecai's feet and points a paw at the image under Marcai's, "Hey who's this guy?" He asks while staring at the picture with curiosity. Mordecai studies the image and gasps. Shadoweye wasn't his real name it was...Shade? Shade, out of all the possible names Mordecai thought he; it was not what he had expected at all. "His name actually Shade...wow." Mordecai says still in shock and amazement. "Do you think he decided to change his name after he turned E. V .I .L?" Dust asks while spelling out the word evil. "I don't see why he wouldn't want to change his birth name to hide his real identity. I don't think he's really all that intimidating." Inowa replies, tilting her head to the side and narrowing her eyes. It was true that Shadoweye wasn't a huge threat, but everyone made it seem like he was, even Mordecai himself.
      "You know you're right about that. I encountered him in Elemon Village, the place he was spotted at a few months ago. His actions make him intimidating" the Moonlight wolf admits, while pointing out his realization. Dust and Inowa look at each other in shock. "You didn't tell me that!" The ferret exclaims in surprise. The hybrid sighs. "I know. It was right before I had met you, but I said nothing about it. It's like a crisis that should never be talked about." "That's pretty deep...cheer up. You'll get him back to him old self some way...don't give up" The ocean blue eyed wolf says, trying to give him hope.
      Mordecai jumps to his feet, rushing towards the door. Dust jumps in surprise and looks at Inowa with a startled glance. They exchange looks and chase after Mordecai. Inowa spots the Moonlight wolf and calls out after him "Mordecai where are you going?!" Mordecai halts and turns around to answer back, "I'm going home, to the Moonlight Kingdom!" Dust rushes towards Mordecai and leaps on to his back, "Let's go; road trip, road trip, road trip!" He chants. Mordecai was glad to see his recently new friend join him on his journey home. "Well you two have fun, protect each other, and watch out for danger!" Inowa hollers back. Before Mordecai and Dust wave back to Orail's sister and continue on their journey to the Moonlight Kingdom, Mordecai suddenly shouts back "You should visit your brother, Orail...he says he misses you terribly."
      Inowa smiles back, "Thank you! I'll be sure to see my dear sibling. Now go!" She shouts back. The Moonlight wolf and ferret wave goodbye and continue their journey to find, the Moonlight Kingdom.
