Chapter 21: A destiny to unravel

      Mordecai looks around the Broken Core. He felt fear. He remembered the nightmare he had, the night before him and his father left to fight Shadoweye. Was it a sign of a dreadful awakening or just his vivid imagination? If it was his imagination then it did a good job scaring him lifeless. He also heard the name Phantom Lord. Who was that?
      Mordecai turns around and shivers a bit. The air of this horrid place made him feel unprotected and cold. Shade also shivered and limped a bit towards the path to the Moonlit Forest. "Wait brother! You're still too weak to walk, let me help you!" Marcai yells back at Shade and runs after the weaken wolf. Shade stops and looks over his shoulder to see his brother approaching him quickly. He sighs and sits down, tucking his tail underneath his leg. Marcai looks at his brother with a worried expression, "You can't be doing that. What if someone tries to attack you" He says, with worry. Shade huffs and rolls his eyes, "Oh please! The forest is as safe as can be!"
      Mordecai chuckles to himself while, watching his uncle and father go back and forth. This wasn't Marcai and Shadoweye, no, this was Marcai and Shade. They were two brothers of the Moonlight Kingdom who truly cared about each other.
     Moonlight wolf jumps into the air and opens his wings, catching a small gust of wind. Marcai looks up at his son, "You go on ahead. I'll walk with your big bad uncle, okay?" He reassures him while teasing Shade at the same time. Share rolls his eyes and murmers something under his breath.
      Mordecai looks down, scanning the forest. There were surprisingly no signs of guards or creatures. The trees were still beautiful as ever and the exit was just ahead. Mordecai flaps his wings and swoops down towards the exit. He then quickly lands on the soft ground beneath him. Marcai and Shade finally catch up to him. The Moonlight King stretches his body out and Shade stands there in annoyance. "Why...are you so odd? I don't remember you being a show off, brother" He asks Marcai, with a hint of irritation in his voice. Marcai looks at his brother, giving him puppy dog eyes "Don't you want your big brother to look after you?" He asks in a babyish voice. Shade rolls his eye and narrows them, "Stop before I bite your nose off. I will jump on top of you and rip it clean off" he threatens. Mordecai looks at the brothers then slowly backs away. "I see you two crazy kids are reunited so, let's go before something actually crazy happens" he says, eyeing his uncle. Shade laughs and Marcai butts in. The Moonlight King points towards the palace in the distance, "We're almost here! Onward!" He shouts impatiently. Mordecai and Shade exchange looks and moved towards the path to the village.
      When they got there, no one was in sight. It was quiet too quiet. Marcai stood there in panic and ran towards the palace. Shade looked around in confusion, "Are they afraid of me?" He asks with concern and confusion. "No, they shouldn't...be" Mordecai replies unsure of what was actually going on. "We should go after him..." Shade says with worry. Mordecai nods in agreement and they run towards the palace.
      They got to the palace doors. The doors were open to Mordecai's surprise. "Did he open them?" Shade asks, inspecting the doors. The Moonlight Prince stares at the doors, "No, at least I don't think he did." They head into the palace and rush up the stairs. Mordecai and Shade check every room. There was no sign of anyone. Where are they?! Mordecai thought with panic. Shade gasps and runs towards a room they both had not checked. The dinner hall! Mordecai follows his uncle to the dinner hall doors. They both press one of their ears on to the door. There were voices coming from the other side! Mordecai felt so relieved and happy and he could recognize so many of them! He could hear his mother, Zal, the voices of the villagers, and...others? "Wait did I just hear them?" Mordecai asks himself, out loud in surprise and excitement. Shade looks at Mordecai with a questioning look, "What do you mean by them?" He asks. Mordecai looks at his uncle and shakes his head "No one" he answers. His uncle looks back at the door, eyeing it. "Well we have only one more thing to do" He says. Mordecai looks at him in shock, "What?" He asks. Shade stared at the door and backed away. Wait he isn't going to is he? Mordecai stared in shock. Then Shade rammed into the door and it flung open.
      "Hey!" Mordecai shouts and runs after his uncle. He catches sight of Shade and runs to his side, ignoring the many faces staring at them in surprise. "Are y-you okay?" Mordecai asks in concern. Shade looks up at him with a goofy look on his face, "Yep, you might want to look around" he answers in a whisper. Mordecai slowly looks up and sees the faces of the villagers, guards, and his friends. Moona steps out of the crowd with Marcai by her side and they run towards Mordecai and Shade to embrace them. "Y-you came back" Moona says surprised with the most lovable motherly smile you could ever dream of. Mordecai looks at her and sees pride and joy in his mother's eyes. "I-I know" He says, stuttering a little. He turns around, seeing his friends and acquaintances.
      The trio of brothers, Arkoh, Ti, Sala, Wounder, Gray, Omega, Aladof, Kai, Dust, Edver, Orail, Inowa, Grounder, and even Swift and Speed where there. Mordecai was glad to see that Wounder had recovered from that the flamethrower he had unleashed. He runs over to them and was engulfed by the best hug he could have even if he almost suffocated. Dust couldn't give him a proper hug so he hugged his leg. They finally release him. "M-my internal organs...help" He says, pretending to faint on the ground. Zip gasps and looks around the room "Oh no! Someone help the prince. He has fainted!" The bumble bee furred wolf pup exclaims playfully. "Yes! Take him to the lake and wash his worries away!" Zoom joined in not sure to what he was actually saying. Dash laughs and Ti shakes his head with a sigh. Inowa runs over to Mordecai and looks down at him. Mordecai opens his eyes and gasps in shock. He looks around, "Where...am I? Who am I? What am I?" He asks out loud. Inowa tilts her head in confusion and answers "Hmmm...I don't know a human. Wait, you might be a monkey or...wait...you're actually a unicorn." "Oh no, I'm a unicorn will I ever change back?!" He asks Inowa with a playful gasp. "Orail, says you won't" Sala answers, joining in with laughter. Orail glances up in shock and embarrassingly looks down at his paws, "Hey...don't put me in this" he whines. Edver and Arkoh disappear into the crowd along with Marcai and Moona.
      Dust climbs on top of one of the tables and shouting "ARE WE FORGETTING SOMETHING?!" Everyone looks at him and says nothing. They then return to their conversations and Dust huffs with anger. He hops off the table and runs towards Mordecai. "Hey, what's wrong?" The Moonlight wolf asks the ferret, spite the rude way everyone ignored him. "Nothin I'll just forget about it" Dust answers with annoyance. Mordecai wondered what the problem was. Was there an announcement he had to make or something? The conversations in the room stop and Kai stands in the center of the room with the trio of brothers and his parents in a circle around him. Mordecai turns around and is surrounded by the crowd.
