Mordecai and Marcai return back to the palace. There was a sense of hope for the king and prince. Mordecai could feel a wave of worry and confusion rush over him. How was he to find a way of not harming this wolf? I don't want to kill him he might be important due to the story. He wasn't sure if his father felt the same. Mordecai stops walking and stands there. He lowers his head and looks down at a puddle. The Moonlight wolf sees his reflection. He was a spitting image of his father, but did they both have the same goals? Marcai stops as well and looks over his shoulder, "Hey...are you okay?" He asks with concern.
Mordecai looks up at his father and sighs "I...don't know if I'm ready for this..." He says while lowering his head. Marcai frowns, "I know how you feel...let's just make the best of it, okay?" He replies trying to comfort his offspring. Mordecai looks up at him and sighs in relief "Okay I will."
They enter the castle where Moona and Dust are waiting for them.
"Hey, you guys are back! How did it go?" Dust asks with excitement. "Oh I...well we" Mordecai says while reassuring that his father was not out of this "We went to the forest, saw a tree called a Weeping Willow, and I sort of learned about my sword" he replies. Dust tilts his head in confusion "Well that's nice and what the heck is a Moon-Born? Your mom told me that's what you are supposed to be." Mordecai sighs once more "A Moon-Born is a weird magical Moonlight wolf, there." He explains, abridging the answer.
Moona gasps and looks at Marcai "His sword? There was a scroll for it?" Marcai shakes his head and laughs "Yeah...I think he's its true wielder. Maybe it actually chose him" He answers in a whisper. Mordecai's ears perk up and he turns his head towards his parents, "What was that?" He asks, eyeing them suspiciously. The king and queen exchange looks and say nothing.
Moona finally speaks up, "Um, nothing sweetie, me and your father were just saying something...that's all." Dust rolls his eyes and randomly sneezes. "Ah...I shouldn't sniff the bookshelves again, it's not very helpful for my health...not that I know my health or anything..." Marcai stares at Dust then looks at Mordecai with an unsure expression on his face, "Um, how long have you guys been friends and exactly how random is he? He asks cocking his head in confusion. Mordecai tilts his head to the side and looks at Dust, "I don't know like...a few days. He's like one hundred percent random in my book. Dust turns around, "I guess you could say that bookshelf was pretty...dusty!" He snickers, making a terrible pun and running away. Mordecai shakes his head as he watches the silver mitt ferret run away, while laughing his head off. Moona walks over to Marcai and whispers something in his ear. Marcai then nods and approaches his son. "We should rest up. We have somewhere to be and someone to see tomorrow."
Mordecai knew exactly what he meant and followed his father to his uninhabited room.
Marcai stops at a silver and black coated door. He watches his father place an unusual key in the keyhole. The door opens and Marcai steps away, allowing Mordecai to enter. Mordecai walks into the room scanning every inch of it. It had a large window with black curtains, a red pillowed bed with a black blanket, and small silver stand next to the bed. "I know it's not much, but your mother and I wanted to make you feel at home" Marcai says walking into the room.
Mordecai smiles and nuzzles his father, "Thank you...you didn't have to do this. I've slept in weirder places...not that this is" He says, looking back at the bed. His father laughs and heads towards the door. He stops midway and turns his head. "Hey, see you tomorrow, we have a big day...okay" he says gazing at his son. Mordecai smiles back and watches as his father left the room. He walks up to the door and pushes his paws on it. The door closes and he walks towards the window. Mordecai stares out the window and sees his reflection again. What is my destiny? Why am I depended on so much? The Moonlight wolf sighs and slowly walks towards the bed jumping on it. He curls up and closes his eyes, drifting into slumber.

Mordecai wakes up. In a panic he looks around. The room seemed different to him. Nothing was in his room and he felt a dark presence. He shivers and looks around one more time. The hybrid darts towards the door and slams all his weight on it. Surprisingly, it opens and he stands there in shock. The whole ground was ripped apart and the sky was a crimson red. He stares up at the sky and sees the moon. It was not glowing and instead there was a shadowed claw approaching it. The claw grasps the moon and a shadow over takes it. The claw disappears and the once pale sphere was now red as blood.
Mordecai watches in horror and shields his face with his wings from the brutal force of wind that shook the trees around him.

"The sky will turn the color of blood as well as the moon in a world of eternal darkness" a sinister voice echoes.

Mordecai looks around in panic and the voice speaks again.

"The Phantom Lord will arrive with his raid of everlasting darkness."

The Moonlight wolf then swiftly turns his head and sees his father and the other wolf, Shade. The two wolves look at each other and a gigantic shadow dragon forms above Shade.

"You pathetic mutt, you failed me and now I will take your LIFE!"

The crimson eyed shadow lets out a blood curling screech and grasps its jaws down on his uncle's neck. "NO!" Mordecai screams in horror as he watches Shade's body goes limp and the color in his eyes fade to white. The shadow dragon looks up at Mordecai,

"Your soul will be mine, MOON-BORN!" It roars with its crimson eyes locked on to his.

      Then it leaps towards him.

Mordecai jolts up in his bed and looks around. His heart was beating rapidly and his breathing quickened. He looks at the window and sighs in relief. It was morning, but he was confused and petrified. What was that? It wasn't a dream it was a nightmare. Why did it happen and was it actually a vision of the future? Mordecai sits in bed for a while he then got up. He hears a knock at the door, "Come in" he answers. The handle turns and Moona walks in. Oh it's my mom, thank the Guardians Mordecai thought with relief. Moona looks up at Mordecai. He could see a hint of sadness and hope in her eyes.
"Are you ready?" His mother asks, looking at him with a weary smile. Mordecai nods as a reply and walks up to his mother. He nuzzles her then backs away, "We'll come home safely, don't you worry" he reassures her. Moona gives him a small smile. She walks out the room with Mordecai following behind. They get to the Throne room where Marcai and Dust are waiting.
Marcai takes a step and glances at Moona. Mordecai looks at his mother and he felt a wave of sadness flow over him. He knew she was worried and wanted everyone to be safe. "Hey, everything will be fine" Marcai assures his mate "I believe you can be a strong independent woman and rule the kingdom when we're gone!" Moona laughs with tears running down her face. "You are such a dork..." She giggles while, wiping her tears. Dust gives her a sympathetic look and looks up at Mordecai. "I'll be here for sure looking after her" he said. Mordecai nods with a smile, "Make sure you crack some corny jokes to make her smile again, okay?" He says. Dust salutes him with his tiny clawed paw. He glances at his father who signals him to follow and they leave the palace.
The sky was turning a shade of orange and the clouds began to vanish. Mordecai and his father walk the rubble road as the day passes by. Are we going to be able to do it? He thought with worry. The sky quickly changes to a dark eerie black. There were no stars or moon to be seen and the air felt mucky. Mordecai coughs and struggles to walk. He watches as his father did the same. They continue to slowly walk the dark path and their breathing returns to normal as they reach the end. Marcai stops and looks straight at a claw shaped stone. The stone had a hollow hole and light spilling out of it. Wisps of glowing light circle in and out of the core of the stone. The Broken Core!
