That night, all anyone wanted to do was play games. Catch Phrase, Two Truths and a Lie, Uno, Go Fish; you name it! From card games to MASH, they had it all.
But all I really wanted to do was sleep.
"Night, guys," I said, burrowing under my covers.
"You're going to bed already? It's only 10:00!" Emily protested.
"What? I'm tired. It's been a long day." I needed time to relax my brain-and muscles-and think about the sermon. But I didn't tell them that.
"Well, okay. Goodnight."
I fell asleep in minutes.

My back ached. The room smelled of Lysol, wood, and perfume. Where am I? I thought to myself.
Then I remembered I was at Encounter Camp, almost 200 miles from home. A groan escaped my lips and I sat up in bed, bumping my head on the top bunk. Ouch!
Rubbing my temples, I slipped out of bed and walked to the bathroom. There were dark circles under my eyes, even though I'd went to bed fairly early for a night at camp. I put a hand over my mouth and smelled my breath. Ugh! Not a pleasant smell.
I hurried to get ready, brushing my teeth and French-braiding my hair. Then I got dressed in a green T-shirt and jean shorts.
At Encounter Camp, there were eight teams: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, and black. You had to support your team by wearing the correct color. I just so happened to be on green, my favorite.
Today I would meet my teammates and play what would probably be a sport for game time. I couldn't help feeling nervous about it, but I was excited, too. I hoped to make some new friends at this camp.
