After the song, I slipped out of the room so I could calm down. I sat in a chair in the lobby and cried some more. I didn't know why I was crying, exactly, but it felt right.
The song had been so powerful. I didn't know what to think of that overwhelming presence in the room. What could it be?
Just as I was wondering about it, I heard the door open and in walked Emily. She rushed over to me. "Oh my gosh, Rain, are you okay?!"
I sniffled and wiped my nose. It had begun to run, as noses often do when a person cries. "I'm fine, I'm fine," I reassured her. "I just...I really liked that song. What was it called?"
" 'Jesus I Come,' " Emily told me.
"It was so beautiful," I choked out. "I felt this...this presence in the room. The air felt thick and my heart was pounding."
I saw her start to tear up. "Rain, that's the presence of the Holy Spirit. You felt God moving, Rain."
"That's what it feels like?"
"Yes. Isn't it amazing?"
"It is," I agreed. "I've never felt anything like it."
"Yeah, it's definitely a one-of-a-kind feeling."
I wiped my eyes with my hands, forgetting that I had makeup on. I probably looked like crap.
"I have to tell you something," I said to Emily.
"Okay...?"
"I got saved today." It felt so good to say the words out loud. I hadn't told anyone, except for Lincoln, of course. But he had been there when it happened.
"Really? Rain, that's amazing!" She threw her arms around me and wrapped me in a tight hug. "I'm so happy for you!"
"Me too. Finally everything is starting to make sense," I confessed.
"That's great!"
I heard the music start to slow down in the other room, which probably meant the session was about to start. "I'm gonna get cleaned up," I said.
"Want me to wait for you?" Emily offered.
"Sure, thanks." We walked over to the restroom and I ran a paper towel under the faucet. Then I wiped away all the tear stains and smudged makeup. When I was finished, my face was all red and blotchy. But I was beginning to realize that my appearance didn't really matter all that much.
Emily and I went back to the room where everyone else was. The door opened loudly, and people turned to look at us. My face turned redder than it already was as I slipped back into my seat.
"Is everything okay?" Lincoln whispered.
"Yeah. I just felt the presence of the Holy Spirit," I replied with a smile.
The session was about God creating land and water. Pastor Brett commented on how amazing it was that God simply said "let it be," and it was so.
When it was over, we headed to the cafeteria for dinner. I couldn't wait to tell everyone the exciting news!
