Chapter Five

We were crouching down, my ankle was burning on and my face was freezing.

"The West side is swarmed." Whispered Fredrik. "The spell worked, our dorm's safe but they're trying to find a way in."

"South side's okay." Said Minnie. "They don't seem to care about the Guards apartment's, but they're searching for anyone who might've escape."

"The East side is clear." Said Johnathon. "They evacuated quickly enough."

"The North is burning, empty but burning." Said Levi.

"Good thing I left then." I said sighing. "Here's the fire spells. It will give you one minute of controlling fire so don't use it unless you absolutely need to."

"How do you turn it on?" asked Fredrik.

"Just break it in your hands and say abracadabra." I told him, handing it to them.

"Really?"
"Really."

"You don't have to say abracadabra." Said Levi.

"You ruined the fun." I sighed. "I already did all the hard work. Whenever you fight it'll hopefully come out naturally. Just think and point at your target then there they'll be hit. It'll be hard for you since you haven't done it be for but it comes naturally."

"Okay."

"What's the plan?" asked Levi.

"Minnie you'll lead us in front, Fredrick you'll be on her left, Johnathon on her right, Levi you'll be next to John, right back, and I'll be next Fredrick, left back. We'll go to the East, past the dorms. We'll have to climb the fence, but if we go straight East we'll find the main road then we'll have to go South."

Everyone nodded, moving quickly and quietly falling into formation.

We jogged, weapons in hand to the East quarter.

We could hear screams and the fighting, the sky was turning red, the smoke covering the moon.

"Is that...Merck?" whispered Fredrick.

I looked to the left, and there she laid, her white blond hair laying matted together with dark red blood.

"You're looking for vampires, not bodies. Focus. We'll grieve later." I whispered.

A dark look clouded over his face, and he nodded.

"Three to one. Unaware." Said John. "Squat."

We did.

John took off the safety, shooting him in the rib. The vampire screamed, but then was silent. I knew the vampire would've caught up in flames as those bullets were like small grenades.

We made it to the children's dorms without any more sightings and while I was relived they made it out, it also made me skeptical to what was in the wood. For all the mess in the other side of the campus it was too clear here, it was too quiet.

It was a clear shot into the woods, but that also meant anyone coming behinds us gave them a clear shot at us.

"Should we run for it?" asked Minnie.

I pursed my lips. "Half and half, that's our safest bet. Minnie and Levi, you get to the other side first. We'll cover you. Check to see if there are any vampires over there and we'll cover you from over here. Then, you guys cover us as we run."

Minnie nodded, giving her boyfriend a kiss on the cheek. "Come on Levi."

"Fred. John. Cover them I'll watch the West." I said.

I could hear their feet running through the field.

"They're on the other side." Whispered John, a while later.

"Is it clear?"

"Minnie and Levi are giving the signal."

"You guys go ahead, cover me when you're on the other side."

"But it's clear." Said Fredrick.

"No threat in being cautious, now go."

I occasionally looked back, until I saw them get to the tree line turning weapons ready.

I turned and ran.

Minnie shot behind me.

Of course one of them would appear as soon as I turned my back.

We got back into position, jogging quickly through the woods.

"I see the fence." Said Minnie moments later.

Soon, we were over the fence and after what felt like hours we were in the middle of the road.

"We should stay in the trees close to the road." Said John.

We nodded, easing the formation a bit.

An hour later we could see red lights ahead. It looked like a bus, one of the school's bus's.

"Is that-" started Fredrick.

Several things happened at that moment. I noticed the four pairs of red eyes. A vampire came up behind Levi, John noticed getting between them staking him in the chest. I could feel someone come up behind me. I quickly turned taking out my stake, blocking her punch, I punched her in the face seeing an opening I stabbed her chest.

She screamed. I get yanked back from my waist, as he threw me to the floor making me hit my head not prepared for the throw. Fredrick kicked the vampire in the head stunning him. I sat up, the world becoming slightly tilted. The vampire quickly took out a knife, stabbing Fredrick in his stomach, but not taking it out. Levi came out behind the vampire stabbing him through his back hitting his heart.

"Shit!" yelled Fredrick. Levi held him.

I got up quickly, shaking off the dizziness.

"The bus is safe." Yelled John, Minnie right next to him. It looked like she was unconscious.

We made our way to the bus, Levi helping Fred. "What happened here?" I asked, there were no teachers just the children.

"One of the vamps had a spell to stop the bus. It separated us from the others. The teachers got out to check and they died." Said one of the older kids. "They didn't come in though. I think we were supposed to be a trap."

"Well, you were one big trap." Said Fred as Levi helped him into the bus. "Mother f-!" He yelled, stopping himself suddenly aware of the children.

"Do you know where you were headed?" Asked Minnie.

"I don't know."

"John, you're way better with blood then I am take care of Fred."

John nodded.

Minnie nodded at the door, signaling us to meet outside.

"My house is five hours away in the East. It's huge and we'll be safe there until things are okay again. Plus, Fredrick's hurt he can't make it all the way to St. Peters. Maybe we can contact parents and the school."

"What if they were attacked?" I asked.

"Then, we'll have to do something ourselves."

"What if we talk to some witches? Get their advice and help."

"We've only had a professional relationship with them. I've never heard of them helping us."

"Well, then this will be the first. There's no other choice."
