Chapter Six

"Fairbanks. It's seven hours away and I know some people who could help us." Said Levi.

"Great." I said. "We'll both go."

"Just us?" asked Levi.

"Yeah. Minnie has to drive the bus to her house, Fredrick just got stabbed, and John has to take care of him. Plus, I came up with the idea of going to the witches."

"You're still hurt." He said, looking at my leg.

"I'm fine. See?" I said, lifting my leg and balancing on the hurt one which was a stupid thing to do on my part.

"Fine." He said sighing.

"It's seven hours by car but you guys don't have that. You don't have any money, where are you going to stay?"

"I have my sister's card, and we can steal a car."

Minnie rolled her eyes. "I think there's a motel an hour or so on the way to my house. I'll take you there then you guys can figure out by yourselves."

We got in the bus, and I made sure to thank Fred for helping me.

Two hours later we were in front of a small motel.

Levi, who was the one who looked eighteen although we weren't went to get a room key. While I would've preferred paying in cash we had no other choice.

We walked up the stairs to our room. It was decent for ten dollars a night with only a single king sized bed, a fridge next to the bed, and a television at the foot of the bed. There was a bathroom to the right of the room, and that was it.

"We should check your leg."

I nodded.

When we sat in the bus, slowly my adrenaline crashed I could start to feel the pain and exhaustion.

I took off the book bag and my jacket putting them on a chair, limping to the bed.

"I knew you were faking it." Said Levi, taking off his jacket too. "Faking being okay I mean, not the bleeding."

"I wasn't faking. I just wasn't feeling it." I said, taking my left shoe off.

"Here, I'll take the other one off for you." He said, kneeling, untying the boot and gently taking it off.

"Thanks."

"No problem." He said, looking at the bandage. "You bleed threw the bandage. I hope there's a first aid kit in that bag of yours."

"I think there is. That was a while ago."

He nodded, getting the kit.

"Al, we can't get your sister out if you don't take care of yourself."

I sighed, laying back with my foot sticking out. "I know."

He took off the bandage. "That must have been hard."

"What?"

"Leaving her."

"Yeah, it is."

"Especially with this bite." He said, cleaning the wound.

I almost stopped breathing. "How did you know?"

"I suspected it. You were too calm with everything. Staying behind whether it was for a little while or not. And now, I can see the bite marks."

"Of course." I muttered, putting my arm over my eyes.

"What are you going to do?"

"I don't know. Ignore it until it goes away. Ouch." I said, cringing when he pressed to hard.

"Sorry." He muttered. "You should've told her."

I sighed. "I know. I don't want her to worry."

"Well, there's nothing we can do about it now."

I groaned.

"If you start feeling bad just wake me up. I think there's a gas station up the road." He said, wrapping my leg.

"Okay. Thank you. Sorry my feet probably really stink."

"They do. It's no problem. We have to take care of our partners, remember?"

I nodded, smiling slightly. "Eighth grade. Our first partner class, gosh we got in so much trouble."

"No you got in trouble, you were so bad at it."

"I liked being alone, but you were always freaking there."

"We had to, that was the assignment." He said, laughing.

"I know but it was weird."

"What me being better at it then you? Or you being worst then Poppy?"

"Both." I said, laughing. Getting further up the bed, and under the covers. "I got better though."

"You did. You are a good partner when you stopped being so competitive." He said, taking off his shoes.

"Is that why you were better at it then me?"

"Yeah, that is why I'm still better at it then you."

I rolled my eyes.

"But you're a better leader." He said, lying next to me. "By the way, I probably smell bad, but I'm too tired to take a shower right now."

"Me too." I said smiling. "I didn't really feel like I was leading today. It felt like I couldn't. It felt like everything was out of my control. It was one thing after another, especially after a day like today. It had to be on a test day."

"That's because it was out of your control. It was out of everyone's control." He said. "How could this happen?"

"Traitor's. We had traitors."

"Do you know who?"

"One of them was Harold. That shit face."

"What happened?"

I told him everything that happened with my phone, the vampire, and Harold.

"Why did he take your phone?"

"I don't know cause he's crazy. Who can trust a vampire? I'm glad he did though. That way I knew he was involved with the vampire." I sighed. "This sucks."

"It does. We have the responsibility of saving like two hundred students lives."

"Shh, you're making this worst."

"I know."

"We can do it though. We have to." I whispered.

"I'm tired."

"It's two in the morning. We should go to sleep. Good night."

"'Night."

I quickly fell asleep; my body numb to the real world, and my mind turning blank, too tired to replay the awful last hours we've had.

The door slammed open. "Shit, it's really cold out there and that rain is pouring."

I opened my eyes, jumping up. "What the-?" I yelled, my throat closing.

The figure by the door turned his eyes were dark red.
