Chapter 8 (Haru's POV)

"Here you go," King Rin offered a miniature sack of ice, "That hand mark looks like it stings,"

I took the small freezing sack and held it to my face. The shock of Akai-san slapping was wearing off but the pain from his slap wasn't.

"Thank you," I thanked King Rin and averted eye contact.

Just how much of that conversation did he hear? Did he catch onto my emotional outburst?

I wanted to ask him, but my instincts told me otherwise.

"You know," King Rin piped up, taking a seat next to me, "It takes a lot to make Hotaru snap like that."

"I bet," I grumbled, feeling both angry and ashamed of my lack of self-control.

"King Rin is usually never like that,"

Akai-san's voice rung through my head. I looked over at King Rin, who thankfully was in deep thought, and stared.

With the things he had done to me in mind, how exactly would Akai-san expect me to forgive him? None of the less take care of him?

A rather weird idea came to mind.

Did he think that I would care about King Rin enough to let it slide?

Every muscle in my body tensed up as new thoughts began to roll into my head, knocking my composure off balance.

How exactly did he come up to that conclusion?

No matter how I looked at him Akai-san is a smart guy. There's no way he would have an error within those conclusive thoughts of his.

"What's wrong?" I heard King Rin ask, but I couldn't bring myself to answer.

Was I showing unconscious attraction to King Rin when Akai-san observed us?

"Oi, Haru," King Rin placed a hand on my shoulder. Sparks of an unknown variety irritated the skin of where he touched. I quickly slapped away his hand and inched away from the royal.

"It's nothing," I kept my line of sight focused on the floor, unable to meet his eyes.

"Haru, I-" King Rin started to talk, but was cut off my a brisk knocking on his bedroom door.

"King Rin?" A feminine voice spoke with urgency, "The strong one is here to see you now,"

The strong one?

"Okay," King Rin turned his head towards the door and called back, "Tell him I'll be there in five minutes,"

"As you wish," The woman's voice stated sternly. Fading footsteps began to ease tight tension within my chest.

"Who is 'The strong one'?" I asked out of curiosity.

"Just a noble of whom I have to settle things with," King Rin sighs, "I really don't wanna go, stuff like this is always so boring."

"Go," I rolled my eyes, "If you don't do it, it will most likely cause trouble for both you and me,"

"Ah I got it, I got it, I don't need my personal maid to tell me otherwise," King Rin exaggerated the words 'personal maid' as if he was trying to provoke me. He ultimately succeeded.

"Huh? I'm nobody's personal maid," The rebellion within my voice was as clear as crystal.

"Oh really~" The way King Rin sung those two words set off alarm signals within my sub-conscious. I felt the bed go out from under me as King Rin creeped towards me.
