Rin's POV

"You will do this for me Rin."
"Okay... " I sigh and look into Haru's eyes, "Consider yourself my queen."
"I'm not your anything," He scoffs, rolling his eyes, "Another rule, no more maid training and keep Akai-san away from me."
Just when I was going to get him into maid's robes.. what a waste.
"Okay, okay." Pursing my lips, I watch Haru turn towards the exit, "Where are you going now?"
He looks back at me and then at the floor.
"Home."
Home?
"You had a home?" My teeth skim the surface of my bottom lip, biting down slightly.
"Have a home." Haru states, walking towards the door, "I always had one with him. I can't believe I didn't try to go back sooner."
No.
"Haru," I sigh, clenching my fists, "Don't go to him... Please stay here. You don't know what he's like."
"What do you know about Makoto that I don't already?" He stops in his tracks, turning around, "He's my best friend. I know him better than anyone. Don't make him out to be the bad guy just because it suits you!"
"That's not it!"
Even my own voice startles me. My sudden outburst makes Haru take a couple of steps back.
"That's.." I groan, pursing my lips before I begin to speak in a more smoothing matter, "Makoto may be nice to you but he's just like me when it comes down to wanting you."
"I've had enough of this conversation." The disappointment in his eyes loop a string around my throat, "I'll be back in a couple of days."
"Haru!"
"Rin." He reaches for the doorway placing his delicate fingers along the curved marble pillar, "Are you really going to break a rule right now?"
Pursing my lips, I keep silent watching as Haru passes through the doorway and slips from view.
As long as he comes back...
I sigh, thinking back to when Makoto was with Haru in the infirmary.
That look of wanting.. The unbearable temptation.. I know it all too well.
What if Makoto can't control himself? What if he does what I did to Haru... or worse..
The slight scuff of a shoe nicks into my attention, snapping my head to the direction of the doorway.
"Akai.. I know you are there." I walk to my throne and sit down, slowly shrugging off any visible tension.
"Are you sure you want to let him go like that sir?" Akai walks in and sighs, wiping blood off of his hands onto his robe.
"How long were you listening?" I narrow my eyes at the blood.
"For most of it. I apologize sir. It sounded important so I decided to stay quiet." His tone smoothly covers any uncertainty I could sense before.
"Next time," I look at my arm rest and trace a neat H into it, "At least make your presence known to me."
"Yes sir." Akai bows his head.
"I am sure he will come back," I steady my voice, refusing to let it waver under the pressure of a lie, "He's mine after all."
"I see," He replies curtly, "As long as you are sure."
As long as he doesn't know.... it won't hurt him..
"Actually, Akai I would like you to carry out a new mission." A few guards from Akai's group make their way into the room.
"Of course sir and what would that be?"
"Follow Haru alone... at a safe distance where he will not notice you and keep an eye on him. You will not intervene with anything he does unless he is in danger. Understood?" I silently pray to the Gods to not be found out.
He never told me not to send spies. As long as Akai has no reason to intervene then I did not technically break his rule.
"And you three," I point to the three guards that has entered the room minutes ago, "Go tell my landscaping staff that once our mess is cleaned up I would like to add a new indoor pool in the throne room and two more in the garden."
The three quietly bow their heads and turn, walking out.
"Are you certain sir?" Akai looks at me with his calculating eyes.
"When have I ever doubted a decision I made?" Retorting, I circle the imaginary 'H' I traced.
"Never sir." Akai purses his lips, noticeably holding back.
"Good now off you go." Leaning back, I watch Akai stand up and look at me with a neutral face.
"King Rin, may I ask you something before I go?"
"Go ahead."
I know what's coming.
"I ask you this as your friend and not your servant this time," He takes in a large inhale, "Is chasing Haru really what is best for you sir? If he were to disappear I believe that would end up leaving a big scar but at least it would be a scar and not an open wound."
Disappear? How dare you.
"Akai," An unavoidable anger flickers in my voice, "If I can't keep what is important to me safe then what kind of king am I?"
"My apologies King Rin." Akai bows his head again.
"You are forgiven, now leave," I watch him lift his head and turn, "Ah.. one more thing Akai."
"What is it sir?"
"Don't mess this up."
