friday, three days after

I glanced at Niall's hands and knew that something was wrong. He would never hurt himself purposely... Would he?

I stood with Zayn at the entrance of school, watching Niall plaster posters on the fences and poles outside.

"What do we do? He won't speak to any of us," Zayn said. "I need to know he's okay. "

"We already know the answer," I reply, "he's drowning in regret and he doesn't know how to swim. It's understandable. We should know, we did the same thing; we all neglected Josephine. "

"I know, I regret it all. I just wish I had one more day to tell her how much she meant, you know?"

I sighed, took one more look at Niall, turned my back, and walked into the school.

"I know. "

// six hours later //

The entire day consisted of me thinking about how I could find Josie. I was supposed to be the one person she could trust no matter what. I couldn't focus during English, Maths, and Chemistry.

The bell rang and I immediately packed up and zoomed out the door. I opened my locker, took out the homework I need, and then closed it and walked to the water fountain.

I pressed down on the button but in the corner of my eye, I spotted a familiar head of chocolate curls with Elena Matthews. I had to have a double take before I could confirm what I saw because it looked like the boy was doing something I had seen him do before.

FLASHBACK
[three years ago]

"Hey cutie, I missed your sweet little face!" Harry spoke to Josephine. He sat down and then put an arm around Josephine's body and the other around her neck.

"I'm not cute," Josephine said with a smile. She giggled and then nuzzled her face into Harry's neck.

"Stop it lovebirds," Zayn says jokingly but a hint of seriousness. "I'm gonna be sick!"

"Zayn, you're just jealous that I have a girl and you don't!" Harry uttered out while laughing.

He chuckled uncomfortably before saying, "Nah bro, the single life is great. No girls to worry about."

"Sure Zayn! Whatever you say," I snickered.

Zayn ignored me and took out his phone, scrolling mindlessly.

I was confused until I looked beside me and saw Harry and Josie making out. I was hit by a sudden sadness for Zayn. It was illegal, I couldn't help it and neither could he.

After two minutes, while I awkwardly pretended to be interested in a newspaper, I also noticed still hadn't stopped making out. Not only that, I noticed Zayn glaring at Harry from the corner of my eye.

He scoffed and got up, leaving the took abruptly. The door slam was the only thing the shake the happy couple up from their peaceful world.

"Is he okay? I didn't realize it until now but he was quite silent today." Josie asked. Of course she would ask. She always cared deeply about everybody she loved and that's what everyone loved about her.

"I'm sure he's fine," I say with uncertainty.

And before Josephine could say any more Harry interrupted her saying, "Babe, look at this butterfly necklace I got you! "

He pulled out a box and opened it, revealing a beautiful blue crystal butterfly.

She gazed at the necklace with fascination and then looked back at Harry.

"Do you like it? I wanted it to show how beautiful you are, with a vibrant mind and bold body. I can take it back if you don't want it, I mean I guess--"

She cut him off with a passionate kiss and then looked deep in his eyes.

"I love it. "

flashback end

Harry slipped Elena the same box, opened it and, shocker, a precious crystal butterfly necklace laid in the box except this time it was red.

Elena jumped with excitement and then they slammed their lips on to each others' and Harry ran his hands messily in her golden locks. I scoffed, and rolled my eyes in disgust. I pressed the water button, taking a good gulp of the refreshing cool liquid and then I wiped my mouth. Harry and I met eyes and I gave him a cold hard look. He looked sad, guilty almost, but looked away. He went back to Elena and then I met up with Zayn and I told him everything.
