NIALL
friday, three days afterThe cars zoomed past our bodies. I got into the car. I turned up the radio.
The people beside me wore big grins on their faces, and I wonder if my sister would've smiled if she was beside me.
Suddenly, rain crashes down on the roof of the car and it matched the mood. Liam was the first to notice it and Zayn followed, but only because of the rough nudge he received from Liam.
"Do something," Liam muttered to Zayn. Zayn raised his hands up and realized that I watched them intensely.
"I am not a child," I spat out. "You don't have to care and watch over me like a baby. I can manage. Doing that wouldn't help anybody, including Jos, so just go back to being useless. "
Zayn gulped and shrank into his seat. I immediately feel crushed with guilt and regret and Liam watched me in the mirror. He noticed my sorrow and regret, and he noticed my lack of apologies.
"It's okay, Zayn," he soothed, "you're great help. We need you here in the process of saving Josephine."
I felt thankful for Liam reassuring Zayn. I felt like crap as well. We all hurt from losing her, so why did I hurt others more and risk losing even more loved ones?
After the eternity we spent in the car, we reached the police station.
We all unbuckled our seat belts and I let out a breath.
The pain tugged at my brain and begged me to do it. I couldn't hurt anyone. Not anymore. Not after hurting someone so bad and ending up losing them.
"I'm sorry," I whispered to Zayn, as get out.
Liam looked at Zayn, then at me, and back at Zayn before smiling.
We all marched towards the entrance and were welcomed to the smell of dark coffee and old papers. All we saw were folders everywhere and stern looks.
"Hello," a random policewoman uttered. "Can I help you?"
"We have information about the Josephine Horan case," Liam explained, "and we'd like to give it to somebody to further the investigation."
"Ah, yes. That case is new. What a pity! She was so young."
I grew livid and was sure that I was most likely red. But I couldn't help it.
"Is young," I corrected. "She's still alive."
The policewoman glanced over at me before recognizing me with an understanding face.
"Right," she corrected herself, "is young. I apologize, Mr. Horan."
I gave her a weak, forced smile before she continued. She scanned the screen for information, rolled herself in her wheely chair to the eleventh file cabinet on the right and opened the last cabinet to pull out a Manila folder. Then, she stood up and brushed her grey pencil skirt.
"Follow me."
The three of us remained in line, with me following first.
We turned the corner and she began striding toward the blue door with the numbers "386".
My eye caught a jean jacket outside the investigation room we entered.

"You got this a couple hours ago?" James Holland asked us. He was the investigator and policeman involved with Josephine's case.
"Yes, at a coffee shop," Liam replied. "The one by Aldridge Books."
The man glanced at the picture before sighing and asking Liam to forward the picture.
After a couple minutes, James spoke up. He said, " thank you for this. We promise this helps a lot in finding you sister, Niall."
My eyes jumped from my hands to Mr. Holland's eyes. His grey eyes hid the sliver of mischief and he seemed suspicious to me. I raised an eyebrow, but didn't push it any further.
"Thanks," I said. He had yet to call my family about anything. Was he hiding something? Why was he so shady? He radiated with a merciless cold that made shivers run down my spine.
"No problem. Not at all."
