-Michael's POV-
"Fuçk off!" I scream. I storm off quickly not wanting to hear anything else from Luke. I've had it with his controlling personality. All he does is tell me what I should or shouldn't do. I love Luke, really I do. But right now I need to be as far away from him as possible. Otherwise I'll probably end up punching a wall. Once Luke is out of my sight I begin running as fast as I can. I don't know where I'm running but I do it anyway just needing to let off some steam. As I bolt down the street I can't hear anything but the pounding in my ears and the wind screaming. Only when my chest begins to tighten up do I stop sprinting for a moment to catch my breath. I lean over and ragged breaths escape my mouth.
"Michael?" I hear someone call out. I turn around to see Ivy jogging towards me. "Hey, what happened?" she asks concerned. I don't speak but instead walk up to her and engulf her in a hug. I begin crying and let out all of my frustration.
"Whoa, Michael. What happened? Here c'mon let's go back to my house." Ivy says and rubs my back soothingly. She guides my shaking body to her house and her parents greet me with a small 'hello' but quiet down when they see my state.
"Okay, tell me what's going on." Ivy says as she lays beside me on her bed.
"L-luke." I choke out. "H-he's bei-ing ridiculous."
"Oh gosh. Let it out."
"I told him about the job interview and-"
"Wait, wait, wait. You got an interview? You didn't tell me!" Ivy says excitedly. I give her a stern look.
"Right, right. Bad boyfriend first." she nods at me to continue. I suck in a huge breath and steady my voice.
"So I told him about the interview and he told me that I don't need to work because he can provide for me like I'm some child. Then he told me there was no way I'd get the job because I can't be adult enough to even handle an argument!" I yell out. Ivy nods along letting me know she's listening.
"Not to mention he's always so possessive! That's not how a normal relationship should work! I should have a say in what goes on to especially when it concerns my own life!" I say getting less and less sad and more angry with every word. Why should Luke get to be mad at me? I'm the one who's always getting the ass of things. At this point I'm fuming. I can barely think straight as all the anger builds up inside.
"I think you need to release some more stress, Mikey." Ivy says quietly. "Rant some more."
"Oh also did I mention that he's controlling? He's not just possessive but he likes to control my life. Like I'm some idiot who doesn't know how to take care of himself! I love Luke but this is getting out of hand. If he doesn't change something I swear to God I'm going to lose my mind." I'm pacing back and forth letting everything out at once. I feel like I've been holding this in for so long that it's just all flowing out now and I can't stop it.
"This is good. You're letting out steam and cooling off." Ivy says and smiles. "Maybe the problem is Luke."
"No shít, Sherlock." I scoff and plunk down on her bean bag chair.
"No, I mean, maybe you guys need to take a break." she offers quietly. I raise my eyebrows at her.
"Okay, I know Luke can be a jackass sometimes but I don't think this is something I can't work out with him." I say with certainty.
"But the thing you want to change is Luke. You want him to stop being so possessive and controlling but that's his personality. You can't change a person like that." Ivy argues.
"I'm not going to leave Luke. I love him and that won't change. I fell in love with him even though he's got a few quirks. Everyone has flaws and Luke's no exception. I love him for who he is." I say with such sincerity I feel like I'm saying wedding vows or something.
"Michael can't you see that your relationship with Luke is poison? He's not good for you! You want to be free and out there but he's not letting you! Why can't you see this?!" Ivy yells at me.
"Don't talk to me like I'm a child! Luke does that enough already. I thought you were my best friend, Ivy." I say through gritted teeth.
"I am! That's why I'm saying this to you because I care! He's not good for you, Michael. I wouldn't be saying this just to hurt you." she says getting quieter. I stare down at my feet not daring to meet her gaze. If I looked at her I would only cry.
"I'm sorry." I whisper.
"Me too." she replies with her head hanging low. She gets up and walks over to me to hug me tightly.
"How about some good news for now?" she asks instead.
"Oh, right. Yeah I guess that company really needs an assistant because they called me and offered me a job interview! Means I get a shot at getting a real job now." I say someone cheerful but I don't feel completely happy.
"That's great to hear though, Mike. I'm so proud of you." she says with a huge grin.
"Yeah, I suppose so. I should probably head home 'cause my parents are probably wondering where I'm at. Thanks for listening, Ivy." I tell her with a quick pat on the back.
"No problem, Mikey!" she calls after me as I leave her house. I wave good-bye to her parents and begin walking back to my parents' place. Emotions surge through my brain as I walk home; excitement, anger, sadness. My brain doesn't know which to feel so I just feel everything. I feel my eyes tearing up but I tell myself to not cry. Luke may have upset me today but that doesn't mean I have to let that put a downer on my day. I got a job interview for fuçk's sake! And damn well I'm going to be happy about it. I try to push my emotions down as I see my parents' house come into view. I open the front door with my spare key and trudge into the living room.
"Hey, sweetie. How have things been?" my mom asks with a small smile. I return a weaker smile and join her on the couch. My dad sits across from us on the love seat and his face holds an indifferent expression.
"I've been better but it's okay." I sigh out.
"Oh, well, I tried calling your phone earlier but you didn't answer." my mom tells me.
"That's weird. I didn't hear it go off. I must of been too busy talking to Ivy or something."
"You're always busy." my dad joins in.
"Daryl! Don't be rude!" my mum yells at him.
"Karen the boy's never home! Can you really blame me?" my dad screams back.
"Guys, I'm sorry." I whisper. They both turn to look at me with softer eyes. Everything is quiet for a moment before I break the silence.
"I guess I should check my phone then." I say with a heavy sigh. I search for my phone in my pockets, my backpack and anywhere else I could have possibly put it.
"What the hell? What happened to my phone? I swear to God I just had it." I mutter mostly to myself.
"Well where did you last have it?" my mum asks. I try to think and the last place would have been Ivy's house.
"Crap. Must have forgotten it at Ivy's." I answer and grab my jacket. "I'll be back real quick, just gunna go pick it up." I tell my parents. However, before I can make it out the door, our home phone rings. My dad gets up to answer it and seconds later he calls out to me.
"Hey Mike! Don't leave yet. Boy says his name is Ashton and is asking for ya." I furrow my brows in confusion and take the phone from my dad.
"Hello?" I ask confused.
"Michael, what the hell did you do?"
