My feet began to carry me, quickly down the stairs. My ears led me to where there was noise coming from; the kitchen. Justin was standing in the pantry, rummaging around in the food. There was a small portion of food spread out on the table, along with a blanket.

“What are you doing?” I asked, with a small, quirky grin planted on my face.

“Damn it, this was supposed to be a surprise.” He didn’t look too disappointed though.

I still continued to look at him, lost and confused.

“Just go upstairs and fix yourself something warm to put on” he giggled, seeming too proud of himself to actually answer my question.

I frowned and didn’t move for a few moments. Thoughts lingered in my head. A necklace? And now something else? This couldn’t all be for last night could it? There was something else to be told, and I was scared of what that might be.

I quickly grabbed a plain, grey jacket and threw it on. I exited the room quickly and pranced down the stairs. Justin’s eyes were set directly on the floor. I could tell he was nervous about something. But when I reached him. He lifted his gaze and smiled at me.

“Lets go shall we?” he wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and began to lead me towards the door. A small, peculiar grin spread across his face and he lightly kissed me on the forehead, before he opened the front door and led the way to range rover.

Justin’s fingers nervously twitched, on the steering wheel. It made me nervous. Not because of the fact that he was a horrible driver. But because he had never been so quiet around me before. This showed that something was circling around in his brain, and I wasn’t quite looking forward to what it might be.

“Where are we going?” I perked up, trying to enlighten the mood.

He exchanged his glance from the road to my eyes. He had broke from a deep thought.

“A surprise” he quivered, scratching the back of his neck.

I slumped back into the chair and started twirling my hair.

“Hey,” he placed a hand on my leg. “It’s a good surprise” he smiled back, trying to encourage the idea.

I smiled back, and then looked out the window. It was a dim night afternoon. It was starting to get dark, but the sun had set, leaving a mixture of colours illuminating the sky.

Justin turned a corner, and then everything changed. From the busy town we’d been in, seemed quieter than most others, but the place that was now in view was almost deserted. There was a small park, with fresh green grass planted for a few miles and even further ahead, there was a small, empty beach. I looked at Justin astonished. I had never seen a place so beautiful.

He began to park, just about about 50 metres before the grass started.

“Wow” I was almost out of breath.

“You like it?” he smiled, looking pleased with himself.

“I.. I love it” I smiled back at him.

“Okay, well wait here, uh..” he pulled out a small handkerchief from his pocket. “I have to do something.

“Wait, what?” I was confused. He began to wrap the handkerchief around my eyes, so I couldn’t see anymore.

“Just shh! It’s a surprise.” I heard him fiddle around in the back of the car for something, and then I heard the car door slam. Then I was alone.

I didn’t know what to think. I just sat there, with a blank expression, twiddling my thumbs impatiently. A few minutes later, my car door opened, and I felt Justin’s warm arms fiddle around my waist for to undo my seat belt.

“It’s done, okay are you ready. Don’t take off the blind fold until I say okay?” he asked, as he helped me out of the car. His hand took mine, whilst the other guided my back where to go. It was like a treasure hunt.

We walked for a while, giggling. Then he stopped me, and untied the handkerchief. As soon as it came off, I saw what Justin had prepared. In front of me on the ground, was a picnic blanket, covered with a portion of sandwiches, chocolate cake, ice tea and sour patch kids. He stood in front of me to see my reaction. I couldn’t stop smiling, which probably made me look incredibly stupid.

“Justin, what is all this?” I laughed, still freaked out by everything.

“A little something special” He replied, pulling my waist over to him. He lightly kissed me and then sat me down on the picnic rug.

“But I still don’t understand” I was still confused of the reason he did all this. Why did he go to so much trouble for this?

“You don’t have to understand, I just wanted to surprise you” he didn’t look comfortable, that wasn’t the reason. But I didn’t want to argue, I wanted to enjoy the moment.

He picked at one of the sandwiches, and so did I. He picked up the chocolate cake, and managed to slice it into 2 small slivers with a butter knife.

“You went through so much trouble Justin” I told him, while he handed me the cake.

“Anything for you” he laughed and poked me in the stomach.

“You’re so cheesy!” I laughed back at him, poking him back. He then scooped a bit of icing off the cake with his finger and wiped it on my nose.

“You didn’t!” I laughed, and propped some on his cheek.

We both started laughing, and I leaned over him to do it again. But I fell into his arms and he laughed even harder. He cradled me then, and settled down.

He wiped the icing off my nose with his finger and put it in his mouth.

“I have amazing taste in cakes” he said, proud of himself.

“Yeah, Yeah” I laughed, relaxing in his arms. I decided to get serious again, I wanted the truth out of him.

“Justin.”

“Emily.”

“Why’d you bring me here?”

“I came here once with my family and I wanted to come back again.”

“No, but why did you do all this? I mean, you gave me this necklace this morning, and now this? Something up. Tell me please.”

Justin hesitated, he lifted my head up and kissed me. “Don’t get mad.”

Oh here we go.

I sat up, and so did he. His mood became serious.

“Mum called me this morning. She told me that they needed me down earlier to organize the show..” he looked down, and I gulped, not wanting to hear more.

“I have to leave.. On friday” he finally said, looking relieved he’d finally told me, but also hurt about the idea.

“F..Friday? You mean we only have 4 more days?” My heart sank immediately. I knew I was going to cry, I could feel the tears well up in my eyes.

“I tried to push it back further, but they were, uh, very determined. I’m so sorry” he looked disappointed.

“But, I won’t see you for months.. I don’t even have that much time left with you now. This is shit.” A tear rolled down my face, and I quickly wiped it away with the side of my palm.

Justin cradled my face, “We have now baby” he kissed my forehead, and I fell into his embrace. He laid down, and placed me only a few centimeter’s apart from his face.

“How about I call you everyday?”

“Twice a day.”

“Before every concert.”

I nodded, and I started to cry again. He stroked my face gently, his eyes glistening. It was getting dark.

He wiped the tears away and kissed me again. I snuggled into his arms, and I didn’t move. I didn’t want to think about being away from him. I tried to erase my mind, only leaving one thing in it; him.
