Clary and Jace were sitting in the waiting room for half an hour when Clary's name was called. When she stood up she noticed Jace moving to stand up as well. "Jace," Clary said, "I'll be fine. Stay here." When Jace sat back down and Clary went to the front desk where she was directed to a room down the hall and told that her doctor will be there shortly. For the past two months or so, Clary had been feeling tired pretty much all the time and seemed to have a cough she just couldn't get rid of.

When Dr. Rorish walked in she spent an hour and a half asking Clary questions and running different test. "So," Dr. Rorish said to Clary, "We are going to run you through a CT scan to make sure that everything is working properly and that nothing is blocking your airways."

And now here she was, in the waiting room with Jace, not that she minded being with Jace, waiting for another half an hour for the CT scan results. "Mr. and Mrs. Herondale?" Clary heard the lady at the front desk call out. Clary nervously looked over at Jace who took her hand and gave her a reassuring squeeze. "Dr. Rorish is waiting for you in her office," the lady told them when they walked up to her.

"Thank you," Jace replied, seeing that Clary was too nervous to talk. "You'll be fine," he whispered into her ear. But even he could tell it sounded like he was reassuring himself as well as Clary, which he was.

When they stepped into Dr. Rorish's office and saw her sitting at her desk, Clary silently prayed for good news. But what she got was the opposite.

"Mr. and Mrs. Herondale, I'm sorry but there is no easy way to say this. Clary, you have been diagnosed with stage two small cell lung cancer."
